In the event of some kind of catastrophic event such as meteor impact, zombie outbreak or war, would you loot for supplies and necessities?

For example, if, during the zombie apocalypse, would you fortify an abandoned building with chain link fence that you found lying around? Would you take a boat from someone's yard to make rivers or other bodies of water safe? Would you put a brick through the pharmacy's window to get at much needed medications?

This is all assuming society has all gone to hell and there's no one around. Think "The Waling Dead".

My friend and I have been meaning to plan out what we would do in case this happens.

My house has a gate around it, but I don't know how sturdy it would be. I think I would try to get to a less populated area and try to survive in the wilderness. Then once things have settled down, look for an abandoned cabin or maybe a farm that has fence around it. Honestly, I don't know how long I would actually last.

I think "head for the hills" is probably one's best bet in case of zombie apocalypse.
Loot as much meds, non-perishable food, and weapons as you can on your way out of town, and then find an isolated and easily-defended place to hole up. And try to get yourself a big, new van or SUV - I recently watched a zombie movie where the main characters were riding around in a convertible. Are you kidding me?? A car with no top when you're surrounded by zombies?
So, anyway....yeah. I would loot like crazy. I'm not sure it even qualifies as "looting", though, in that scenario. Legally, but not morally.

Silly humans, if there's undeath, that means I can become a Lich, retain my intellect while being immortal, and best of all, command the dead. :D It'll be payback time for those evil humans who can't even show compassion for their kin. >:^( I'll have my zombie horde go after the greediest pigs of the planet! MWHAHAHAHA >:^D

I'd stay home and play video games. For real.

This is why I keep cast iron skillets laying about the kitchen, always within easy reach. I mean, seriously, you think that flimsy $2 teflon coated aluminumy thing is going to do anything at all when the Zombies come?

Now grandma's 14" cast iron, that'll smoosh the head off of anything.

Honestly, I'd head for the suburbs. Fat, lazy zombies would be much less formidable than the spry, lithe redneck zombies in the hills. Plus there'd be lots of canned goods and other ready to eat prefab food there to loot, lots of abandoned vehicles, lots of guns to be had, lots of chainsaws and other assorted fancy power tools to add a little comic variety to the zombie slaying.

I never thought of it that way. But wouldn't there be way more zombies in the suburbs than the hills?

Yes, more zombies in the burbs. But much easier to kill. I would much rather face a horde of sluggish "return of the living dead" zombies than even 2 or 3 "28 days later" zombies.

If the ones in the suburbs were the Night of the Living Dead, slow, undead zombies, then wouldn't the hill-people also be turned into the slow zombies?

But I guess if they were all the 28 Days Later, infected-with-the-rage-virus "zombies", then yeah the skinnier ones would be quicker. Although I think there would probably still be plenty of fit people living in the suburbs who get turned.

I guess the best bet is to plan for both situations.

What if animals could be turned? Then we would be really screwed.

Actually, it seems like the smartest thing to do would be to get turned into a Zombie ASAP, cause then you'd be on the winning side and you wouldn't have to watch your friends and loved ones slain.

link to "who will be eaten first?, a helpful guide for dealing an impending apocalypse. I believe this holds for zombies as well.

Haha, I like that.

I love Lovecraft. Right now I'm halfway through a book that contains all his fiction.

What the fhtagn just happened to this thread? I thought we were talking about zombies.

So, anyway, back on topic: do neurodiverse brains taste better, or just kind of "off"?

They're probably the filet mignon of brains.

Considering I know several people in my neighborhood that own firearms and probably have plenty of ammo, I'm not sure I'd actually have that much to worry about.

Might have to learn some archery too, but I guess that's an advantage of living where people practice their 2nd Amendment rights.
