For me I'd say it's all of them. I make social misttakes, so I become afraid of people lashing out at me for illogical reasons, so I avoid social interaction.

This. ^^

Social anxiety leads me to social avoidance. My coping mechanisms tend to fail when I am in social situations. I have missed out on so many social situation over my life. The fear and dread just take over and I try to disappear.

I screw up in social situations.

I get social anxiety.

I try to avoid big-time social situations.

As a toddler, I had no interest in socializing, so I think 'avoidance' is my basic personality.

Later on, when I was forced to socialize, I experienced the 'awkwardness'.

As for 'anxiety', I think what I feel is better described as 'shame' and 'hopelessness'. Shame over past failures, and hopelessness that people will ever understand me. I'm not nervous about talking to people; I know it will be awkward, but I'm not looking to make friends, so I just try to be polite, and call that good enough. :)

My main issue is awkwardness. I do get social anxiety and I also sometimes avoid situations that make me uncomfortable but the awkwardness is at the root of the other, related problems. Even when I decide not to avoid some situation, my awkwardness can just reinforce my anxiety when I do expose myself.

Being awkward makes me anxious which can lead to avoidance, sure, but I know that in certain social situations I am capable, but still the idea of an interaction makes me anxious.
