Yes, my friend was like that when she was younger. She was really homophobic and then all of a sudden she revealed to me that she was a lesbian one day and she said that she was just trying to cover up herself before because she was scared.

It's kind of scary to think about how many people haven't been able to live their lives the way they want because of idiotic religious laws and standards.

I'm one of those people that wasn't allowed to live my life the way I wanted, but mind you, I wasn't gay.

I know what it's like, and I sympathize completely with them. It's down right evil.

The difference is, gays are human beings with emotions and guaranteed rights. Until proven otherwise, spiders are not.

It's a juxtapositioning of their fear with a desire.

That's why I had mistakenly thought that the post was about people skydiving or mountain climbing into a mass of spiders! Sure would scare the s**t out of me. 8O

Me too. Heights and spiders are my two biggest fears actually. No need to EVER put the two together... ever...

The phobia in this case is not a fear of homosexuals, but rather the fear that others might suspect (or realize) that oneself is gay or bisexual.

Where do the spiders come in?
But seriously, I think that's absolutely correct. That's why teens and young adults may be homophobic - because they're afraid if they don't come across as hating homosexuals, they'll be accused of being gay.
