I get told I talk to much esspecially when I talk about or type about a topic I enjoy.I annoy people sometimes without realizing it when I go on and on about the same thing.
If someone mentions a subject in passing that is or used to be one of my topics of special interest, or if they mention a fact about something within that topic, I will immediately jump in and start talking about it and won't know when to shut up. I have learned to break up my long "lectures" on topics into short paragraphs and end with a question pertaining to the topic so they can feel like they are part of the conversation. If I do that I can sometimes draw somebody into a conversation with me about something I am actually interested in. I'm sure that lots of people think that I'm talking just to hear myself talk or because I like to talk about the topic or I'm wanting to show off or something, but that's not it. At the time that I go into "lecture mode" it's really important to me for the other person to know the things I'm telling them about this topic. I feel that if they will only listen, really listen to me about it for five minutes that they will find it interesting. I just really, really, REALLY want them to learn about the topic, preferably from me.
God forbid they bring up a special interest topic while they are at my house because I will light up like a Christmas tree, start going on about it and bring them several books on the topic and while I'm talking to them about it I will be paging through the books and putting book marks in various sections for them to read, which pertain to whatever it is that we talked about. I've sent so many people home with books that it's not funny. Sometimes I get them back, sometimes I don't.
Funny thing is, my kids friends know that I know a lot of off the wall stuff that most people don't care about and that my husband knows a lot about his special interest topics (WWII, Star Trek, space, space travel, astronomy - no, he really is NT) and they will come into the room where we are and ask us about something in his topics or if it's something crazy or obscure they come to me. They do this when they are talking about the topic and wondering something or arguing about it. They know that one of us will probably know the answer or I can find out the answer real fast, and with many topics chances are good that I will send them back to their friends with a book or two on it.
