The BPI has taken the major ISPs to court and forced them to block the beloved Pirate Bay.

Getting around it is almost as difficult as typing this URL into your browser instead: http://tpb.pirateparty.org.uk/

Or, if BT end up blocking it too, just going to the HTTPS version of the regular site will work fine.

But of course this is a slippery slope issue, and censorship is not the answer to anything. It certainly won't stop people pirating, and in fact, the Pirate Bay block is especially absurd considering that a UK artist recently managed to get a track into the top ten indie charts purely via TPB and encourages this sharing of his music whereas the BPI did nothing to help him whatsoever.

Anyway, the UK is once again heading the way of Chinese freedom of speech rules. Shame.

Luckily I use Isohunt so this didn't affect me, but I guess with BTJunkie closing down and talks of others being shut down it's only a matter of time :(

IMO it's stupid tho because I use it to "try before I buy", don't think I could ever go back to when you had to buy an album to find out you liked 1 song on it. Or buying DVDs that look and sound good but end up being utter....

I'd be minted now if I'd saved my pocket money instead :'(

Politer version of "BS"

So, I was basically saying "that is BS" without ranting.

News over here is that once they announced the blocking of the TPB, they wound up getting many more visitors.

Apparently they are educating users about getting around the ban that will happen soon.

Doesn't surprise me in the slightest, in fact it's exactly what I was expecting since the same happened with Newzbin2. This is the Streisand effect in, well, effect.

This doesn't surprise me. They tried something like this in the US with Isohunt, I believe... It didn't work.

Or it could mean it's unfair.
