I am being told to attend the DWP Work Programme by the job centre. I am not told why I must do this but my advisor has made an appointment for me to go and attend a work programme. I am not sure what this means but I have read about it online.

Does anyone have experience on the work programme? Is it compulsory? How much time will it take up?

I am worried that I might be forced into unpaid work that will make me anxious.

Are you on any kind of assistance? I know in America they try to put people on public assistance in these programs to help them get off assistance.

In that sense; it might not be unpaid. You might not get a pay check, but your getting your assistance.

There's lots of useful information on the internet about the Work Programme.

http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/sho ... ?t=3684223
http://www.boycottworkfare.org/
http://www.consent.me.uk/
http://www.boycottworkfare.org/?p=280 < a leaflet here.

Consensus seems to be the WP is a load of c**p, and not any use. Apparently they like to ask for details of where you go to interviews, the purpose being they can claim they helped you get the job, which means they get lots of money from the Government.

I have nothing good to say about the work programme. I will give you the short version:

Referred in September 2011. No problems until February. I was then sent on some courses. They know I'm sight impaired and refused to make adjustments. Not once; but three times.

Wasn't allowed to make a complaint. :x

May 2012 - Diagnosed with ASD and hyperacusis. Informed adviser and requested reasonable adjustments. Was told no, got told off for not saying anything before. (started the diagnosis process in January and informed them the day after diagnosis)

Reasonable adjustment finally made, sort of. Made to wait 2 and a half hours after agreed appointment time before being contacted.

Does anyone know anything about Remploy?

I have a meeting with them and they want me to sign forms apparently. I will be careful what I sign up to.

Remploy are excellent.

They were started after WWII as a non profit and exist solely for the purpose of providing stable employment for people with serious disabilities that just wouldn't be able to work anywhere else.

They are however 100% government owned so it's anyone's guess what this bunch of evil tossers have done to them.
