So do I. I have a particular routine that I use to wash as fast as possible, a little longer when I wash my hair.

We're on a well. If I run the water lightly, the hot water can last to the full length of the showers I used to take. But the heating of the water is what costs - in money and to the environment. Also, I got tired of that much of my day and my energy being taken up, as well as feeling like I was interfering with anyone else wanting to take a shower if my girlfriend was home, if we had guests, or if I visited anyone else. I really felt I had to do something about the situation, so I worked hard until I changed. Another plus is that the well can run dry at the end of the summer in drought years. Shorter showers prevent the inconvenience of having the water run out in the middle of bathing. It's one of the reasons we got a front loading washing machine. It uses way less water.

How the hell can taking long showers be to do with having Autism? ''Oh I have Autism it means I like taking long showers'' ''oh I am neurotypical it means I jump in and out of the shower within 2 minutes''.

I like to go on this site but the only thing that annoys me is the way people think every teeny little thing they do is another ''Autism thing''. I bet one day a thread will come up asking ''is socialising an Autism thing?'' Wouldn't surprise me.

i take long showers but not because i want to. i often zone out in there and spend fifteen minutes washing my arm. this behavior is not particularly unexpected as i have no natural sense of time. i usually lose track while actively engaged.

My showers are short. But I do like baths with either an old Reader's Digest or a book.

That's what I was going to say. It takes me forever to get in because I don't like to take off my clothes, then it takes forever to get back out because I zone out. And I'm postponing the icky moment when I'm standing there wet and reaching for the towel, because I hate the way the water feels on my arms and legs.

same here, except I'll wash my hair 5 or 6 times without even realising. strangest of all is that I've got a permanent 3mm buzzcut on the go, so in theory washing my hair should take less than 10 seconds.

It's washcloths I can't stand. I use those things that are made of a net type material. Yet towels are ok for some reason.

Call me strange (or just call me an Aspie), but I like hot baths more than showers. I don’t take them often, but when I do, I like to read. No one bothers me, and it’s relaxing. It’s a way for me to recharge.

My showers are usually pretty short and efficient, i'm a little compulsive about not wasting water. i'm that way with electricity too, i go around turning things off that were left on, i've actually turned the light of on people when leaving a room, i just forget there are still other people in the room, they'll yell heah, i apologize and tell them its a habit.

When i feel stressed or down however i'd like to stay forever in the shower. i'm very particular about water temperature too, i dislike very hot water or very cold, i spend half the time fiddling with the knobs trying to get the temperature i like.

Firstly, yes, I love long showers but don't often get the opportunity to indulge. For economic reasons, probably more likely to go with bath or hot tub. Over the years I have often joined fitness clubs and nudist clubs so I could have unlimited access to hot tubs etc.

There is another point which no one has mentioned though. With the sound of the shower running while under it, the shower becomes a white noise generator. White noise (& pink etc) are often used to block out other sounds and encourage a meditative state of mind. With the calming warmth of the water and the white noise, I wonder whether it is a way of creating an intensely personal zone which blocks out the rest of the world?

I actually like soaking in a tub better. Its more comfortable on my aging joints. But a warm shower (or a cool one in summer) is enjoyable. However, I do have a few routines I follow. Everything is done to a count (do not ask why but its been 30+ years of doing this!LOL)etc.
Like almost anything else, water can be used as a stim.

Sincerely,
Matthew

I used to, but suddenly you realize how expensive it is to stand in the shower for 30-40min everyday lol.

Not to mention its a waste of water.

I would like to have a tub, but thats kinda hard to have in an apartment, but that would be awesome to float around in one for 1 or 2 .

The warm water and isolation from the outside world tends to get me on a train of thought and I lose track of time very easily, in that case, I might take a 10-15 minute shower. Because of this tendency, when I am in a hurry, I will "play" a song in my head while I shower that I know to be roughly 2-3 minutes long and try to finish by the end of the song. I'm currently using Slayer - Dittohead for this purpose.

Not really. In, wet self, apply showergel, wash it off [maybe wash hair] and out.

Maybe maximum 15 minutes, but usually not
