I am referring to the American hard rock/alternative rock band with use of violin. I find their music extremely powerful and sincere and the members flow so well together despite multiple line-up changes. Who else here likes Hurt? My favorites are Unclean, Rapture (there is rumors there is a 12 minute version!), How We End Up ALone and Omission.

Its rather ironic that I opened this thread few seconds after i started listening to the following discussion on hard rock http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KmQS3PYB ... ure=relmfu

I didnt even know hurt has anything to do with hard rock, I thought you meant you were hurting about something. So yeah, the fact that I opened it right now is PURE coincidence.

I'm listening to them now on Grooveshark. They're pretty good! This is one of those genres that I would listen to more often if I weren't so obsessed with other genres.

I thought you were referring to the NIN song.

Yeah, disappointed.

The Nine Inch Nails song is a mess. I know I will take flak for saying that but so is pretty much everything Trent Reznor's put out. Hurt has far better composition, vocal choices, etc. The lyrics aren't really comparable though.

I can only speak for myself, but I'm not bothered by your comment. I'm by no means a huge NIN fan, but I like the song Hurt because I'm generally into dark ballads.

Hurt is one of his best, but I have other industrial bands I enjoy.

NIN is what made Industrial Metal popular. Godflesh and Ministry weren't nearly as successful as Trent Reznor, if there was no Reznor there would be no Marilyn Manson, and who knows if the big industrial metal bands of today would have popped if NIN didn't do what they did.

I still think the European industrial scene would've happened though...and fear factory were more Ministry influenced and to my knowledge Ministry was doing electronic music before Trent Reznor and Ministry added heavy riffs and pretty much birthed the genre. Correct me if I'm wrong.

And by European industrial metal, I mean bands like The Interbeing, Mnemic, One-Way Mirror, etc.

Ministry came first, but NIN was the first one that was a large success. I think NIN's name actually came from Ministry.
