I use it for seasoning my cast iron, and making eggs delicious.

The fat itself isn't bad for you. Maybe the salt and sugar.

• Saturated fats reduce lipoprotein (a).

• Calcium doesn't turn into bone without vitamin D and saturated fats.

• Saturated fats help prevent fatty liver (a condition I used to have by eating too many sugars/carbs).

• Saturated fats help insulate nerves and coat the lining of lungs.

Saturated fats get a bad rap because they are supposedly harder to burn and lead to heart disease. I think both claims are BS. Your body is going to create fat out of sugars/carbs regardless how many fats you avoid. Furthermore, if you don't eat fat at the end of a meal, you'll feel hungry. I don't buy the links between saturated fats and heart disease because all the early studies are based on location without genetics or other diet considerations controlled.

Fact is most plaque is made of calcium, not cholesterol or saturated fats. Your body is going to make all the cholesterol it wants, and high cholesterol is a sign of inflammation (think -itis), not diet. I think most of the diets and drugs aimed at reducing hear disease end up doing the opposite.

Eat your leafy veggies, soak some sun, and eat bacon. Even if I'm wrong, you'll be happy.

i have a history of hypertension and hypercholestemia- you really think it's safe for me to go to the chehalis garlic festival this friday and eat me some deep-fried garlic cloves, garlic and parmesan french fries and BBQ'd garlic beef sandwiches? if i keel over from a clogged heart from eating this food, i will blame you all who said it was ok, from beyond the grave.

(clicky) the chehalis garlic festival is this friday thru sunday, in chehalis, washington, just off of I-5 northbound, about an hour north of portland. admission is 5 bucks, 4 bucks for uniformed military. you live close enough to drive up to it, don't you?

I've actually heard of this thing. Unfortunately, it's a bit of a drive for a day trip. 240mi? If I still worked in Vancouver, WA I'd be in.

I am planning on driving up on I5 on my way to leavenworth sometime, but I don't know if the dates can match.

I use it for two things, primarily: 1) to make sautéed kale and collard greens (they don't taste as good without some bacon grease and bacon in them), and 2) to grease my outdoor grill so food doesn't stick.
