A local Episcopal church in town does run a free clinic for the poor on Tuesday so I give them a lot of credit for that. They have to wait in a long slow line but it's something.

Churches also rent out class rooms used for sunday school to private schoolers to use on week days.

I don't see why religion has to be so divisive, where you have to brainlessly adopt a rigid dogma to be accepted into a group. I think we should have churches where people study the philosophy of ethics and new, consciousness expanding scientific findings, rather than read the same stuff, over and over again with the same interpretations.

I think people should read the bible for themselves, and meet at church for charity work and other such stuff.

I could see converting an old church into a stripjoint brewery using holy water to make beer. I would name the joint Sodom. The strippers would have devil horns too hehe. The name of the beer would be devils brew.

Many of the Catholic churches in suburban areas here have huge lawns they have to keep trimmed (you know who pays for it, the parishoners) I often thought this was unnecessary because no one is allowed to play on it. Why the churches do not sell the land for a neighborhood or let it go natural I don't understand. I notice Protestant churches don't have much more land than the church building is on and are more likely to have the AA meetings and activities than a Catholic church. I wonder why that is?

Unfortunately, Dawkinsites are not very tolerant of other belief systems.

Not only doesn't it have to be--but in many cases it isn't.

Do not make the mistake of assuming that all religious traditions are similarly dogmatic. There are many progressive denominations in all faiths, where adherents are encouraged to reach their own understanding of the meaning of scripture.

Just because the Westboro Bapitist Church are a bunch of self-righteous a$$holes, does not mean that all Christians are. Just because Chabad Lubavitch are firmly entrenched in archaic thinking does not mean that all Jews are. Every faith has as many variations of belief and practice as their are members adhering to it.

I have a hard time with the proposition that an institution whose central message is, "that which is hateful to you do not do to your neighbor" is a waste of space.

Dawkins "belief system" is firmly founded on experiment fact and corroboration of the theories.

Science is everything that religion is not. It is basically a truthfully founded enterprise. Religion and Philosophy are unfounded and vain pursuits.

Just because I'm not religious in any way doesn't mean I can't admire churches and respect that they have had a positive influence on many people's lives. As well I once visited a 200 year old Basilica and the architecture absolutely blew my mind! I just stood there for a half hour in complete awe looking at the incredible detail whoever built it put into it and what imagined what must have inspired him to come up with such an amazing structure.

I admire and respect many religions, and allow them to coexist. However I feel that if a church building isn't in use for SOME activity for all days of the week, and you're paying full billing, that I'd find to be a waste.
