I just stopped by the grocery store and got a 6 pack of beer at the self-checkout and they didn't even want to see my ID. I tryed to show it to the guy at the register, but the guy was like, "don't even bother, you're old enough."

Hehehehe, had that one a few times myself. One thing that does it (from having worked at a convenience store) is looking like you're dead tired.
On the other hand, I'm 35 and I got ID'ed for smokes two weeks ago. Strangely enough, the cashier was younger than me (I'd estimate she was in her early 20's).

Other signs you're getting older... "spontaneous" road trips to another town now involve 30 minutes or more of preparation and it has to be something really interesting to get you motivated enough to put up with the hassle, as opposed to how it was in our late-teens/early 20's of 'pack people into the car and go'.

When someone mentions "the war"
And it's a different one to the one your mind goes to instinctively.

The killer, though, is when you stop liking the new music.
Happened to me in the early 90's, though I struggled with "Top of the Pops" for some time after that, in hope.

The first time I realized I was getting old was when I heard U2 on a classic rock radio station.

The first time the kid at the grocery check-out wanted to get my attention and said loudly "Hey Mister!" I turned to look who was standing behind me...

As for music I gave up on popular music back in the 80's.

The first time I felt old was when I mentioned the Shah of Iran to some people in their twenties and they had no idea who I was talking about. The priests had ruled Iran all their life, they knew of no other Iran.

And lately people are calling me Mam, I've always looked younger than my age, now I look my age (47), that sucks.

Here's one of my favorite lines I keep using.

Those damn kids and their ipods and mp3's. Back in my day if you wanted music you had to drive all the way to a store and get it on these 12 cm shiny discs. And they only held 12 songs each! And really there was only one or two songs on there you liked, but you had to buy all the bad songs too since there was no other option but to buy in bulk so to speak. But that was the way it was and we liked it!

CockneyRebel reminded me of the stages of dementia:
1. You forget names.
2. You forget faces.
3. You forget to close the zipper after pissing.
4. You forget to open the zipper before pissing.

I was once carded for trying to buy some wine in a supermarket in northern Idaho. I was 39 at the time...

As for the thread, you know you're getting old when you can't find a radio station you like other than the "oldies" stations...

I feel sorry for people who don't don't age much on the outside for a while. One of my friends is 22 and she is refused smokes (she don't smoke but her mother does) even when she shows her ID.

I just applied for my first checking account on Thursday, and I'm not even 18 for another 5 months, but the lady ordered me the debit card when minors don't normally get them because I looked mature for my age, and I didn't even have to need a parent cosign with me since I was a minor!

You'd rather watch Tennis than Hockey.

No, no, that's not a sign you're getting older... that's a sign that you're dead.
Go Canucks! (eventually)
