It depends how bad their eyesight gets. You can't just tell people not to wear them.

Who are you?

If your kid is already highly nearsighted, i.e. can't read a book without holding it very close, then yes, s/he pretty much has to wear glasses or contacts, and there's not much hope of improving. I was addressing parents of children who haven't yet reached that point.

That's fair enough. You still haven't told me who you are though.

Why not start a new thread in the "Getting to know each other" forum?

They're in it for the money. Glasses (before they were cheap on the internet) were very expensive. Now they make their money selling contact lenses and eye surgery. I think the whole business is disgusting. In my 40s I will potentially experience problems with retinal detachment. So will many people with high myopia. And it all could be prevented. It is despicable.

I have medium-to-high myopia, but I'm already dealing with posterior vitreous detachment, which causes dark-colored floaters to pop up in my vision from time to time. However, since I have not yet shown any signs of retinal tearing or detachment, my ophthalmologist said that is very unlikely I will ever have a problem with my retina.
