Hang on, that's not quite right, is it?

Quote:
‘Hang atheist bloggers’: Bangladeshi Muslims call for execution of blasphemers

Thousands of Islamist protesters marched the streets of Bangladesh’s capital, calling for the death penalty for bloggers who insult Islam. The city ground to a halt as demonstrators demanded the government change the law to punish blasphemers.

The activists gathered in their thousands at Dhaka’s commercial hub on Friday night in protest over blasphemous bloggers who offend Islamist sensibilities on social networks. In a demonstration that lasted well into Saturday, they urged the government to introduce a new law with the provision of the death penalty for those who defame Islam.

As the protesters advanced they chanted: "God is great, hang the atheist bloggers!”

I feel sorry for the poor bastards living in a climate like this. These bloggers are far, far more courageous than I'll ever be and I wish them all the luck in the world in trying to drag their country out of the dark ages. I hope they all keep safe.

As for the Islamists: they can go to hell.

I'm curious, though. Would the government of Bangladesh actually acquiesce to the Islamists' demands?

I don't know, but a number of bloggers have been murdered by Islamists in Bangladesh recently.

I'd need to be acquainted with the blogs in question before being able to comment on this. Your initial position determines your assessment, as usual.

These bloggers are critical of Islam. Being critical of Islam is illegal in Bangladesh and you can end up in jail for doing this although they do not technically have a 'blasphemy law'.

There is definitely nothing that could be said against Islam that would be worth the death penalty, especially when what is said is the truth.

If the accusation is TRUE, all the more reason for trying to quash it with violence...

If religion is poison, which it is, then Islam is concentrated radioactive cyanide.

I pity the people of Bangladesh.

To have these rabid fanatics influencing their culture poisons their whole country.

That should be on a shirt. The real light is breaking free of religious bondage.

If that goes on a shirt I would be careful where I wore it in public.
