lemme tell ya, it worked for me, along with a bit of mental hygiene in the form of knowing that our minds can only hold in working memory one whole thought at a time, so if there is a bad thought squatting in there, then it is just a matter of rudely kicking out that bad thought and replacing it with another thought that is better. you shall not let bad thoughts live rent-free in your head.

But what if you don't even know what thoughts are in your head?
I have sort of a mental blockage where I don't actually know why I'm depressed

if I feel lousy, I try my best to distract myself [by any way I can think of] from said lousiness, that is the essence of mental hygiene.
