Do you think acting like a hipster would make me look NT? I kind of suspect it would since most of my quirks would look like they are just part of my hipster persona instead of being neurological.

If you want to be ridiculed by everyone that isn't a hipster, go ahead.

I don't quite understand what being a hipster is about. I think it's like being a scenester to be ironic which seems like a waste of time to me. But I went through an emo phase when I was younger so if the kids need to belong somewhere then more power to them.

But I'd rather people thought I was intellectually disabled than a hipster. Seriously, the amount of abuse those people get hurled at them. At least people can pity me for being autistic and that doesn't feel as bad as being constantly made fun of. I don't like being pitied either but I'd take it over constant ridicule.

The worse thing for a person to be is a poser, so if you do decide to change go all in. I think in Portlandia they called it a 'cultural tease.'

Be who you are. Is it really important to look NT? People more than likely think you are already. To me the more NT you seem the more likely people are not going to be there for you when you really struggle with autistic symptoms. Oh, we all go through that, will be bandied around and if you don't feel anger at them for that then you are a very strong person and I can't see what else you could possibly want to change about yourself. That's just me though; I get really upset when people think they can relate to my symptoms.

Every time I've heard anyone talk online about hipsters (not the beatniks from the 70's or whatever but modern ones, which I found confusing) it has been nothing but negative and people just seem to hate them with a passion. Too bad, I thought I'd look cute in a beret and little round sunglasses. Oops...

I just want to be treated like I'm a full person. If I appear mentally ret*d or autistic, people won't treat me like a full person. If I act like a hipster people might mock me, but they'll still treat me like I'm NT or a full person. If I act like a hipster I can get away with having weird special interests. I can just pretend to like them ironically and I'll still fit in with a group. I don't need to change too much to act like a hipster. I've already been accused of acting like one.

You seem to have both Aspie and neurotypical traits

What would these results mean? Been told here I must be a "half pint".

Maybe you can start a new trend of autistic hipsters.

If you want to be seen as a full person that seems kind of odd become an artist. Or you can just splash a bunch of colours inside your house of mostly overgrown ferns while listening to BB King. Seems to work for the people I know.

I'm in the punk and rock scene (more rock these days) and I don't get treated like I'm different. So you really just have to find more accepting people to be around.

What I don't get is that people make fun of hipsters even if they're only doing it to be ironic. That's like picking on the kid in school who wants to be picked on. I just don't get it. Emo kids didn't do it to be ironic. It was just a music scene that cold hearted people made fun of. We were just teens looking for a group to belong in. I still listen to emotional music but it's ok cause now it's just rock and roll.

Yes, very much so.

Dude. Emo > Hipster. ALWAYS. Emo > Hipster. My city, depending on the neighborhood has areas FULL of the hipsters and the worse thing is the bring in Yuppified people/stuff to those neighborhoods in question. Also the art college in the city core is FULL of them.

The fun part is almost NO ONE admits to being a hipster, unless they are being 'ironic' and pretending to be a hipster when they really are not hipsters. Like, only ONE PERSON admitted to being a hipster.

This is the craziest thread I've ever seen.

Besides, we all know that Aspies need to go shopping with NTs otherwise we get the wrong stuff.

I only have two sets of clothes: pants and a long-sleeve shirt. I wear one for one week, and the other the next week. But I change socks, underwear and undershirt everyday. Is that wrong?
