For some reason, I've noticed that even though I have a hard time interpreting sarcasm, I also seem to have a bit of a penchant for dishing it out. I know that many aspies have trouble interpreting it, but is it strange that I know how to use it despite my trouble interpreting it? I think the reason why I can dish it out is just because I know 100% of the time when I'm being sarcastic, but not when other people are.

I would say I get sarcasm about 80% of the time, and I can be pretty sarcastic when I talk to people. Ironically, they don't always get it when I'm being sarcastic--presentation is a big part of it, and I don't always get that part right. Inappropriate facial expressions and tone of voice maybe? I've definitely found myself in situations where I had to explain that no, I'm not a idiot, I was just being sarcastic...it can be awkward.

I used to have that problem but I have gotten better at picking it up as I have gotten older in my adult years.

Sometimes I ask. If the person is being nasty it usually is clearer after that, and then I know. And if not, they are reminded that conversation isn't so good if I'm confused.

I try my best not to be sarcastic. I don't really enjoy it in other people, so why should they have to endure it from me.

I do tend to have a sarcastic tone though.

I am working on it.

i do not know how to be sarcastic, but i do know how to make people very angry.

example: (when i was senior programmer at infohouse interviewing a girl for a job)

me: so just fill in your name and the rest of the details and i will be back in a moment.
her:ok.
me: (when i came back and looked at her sheet) sorry but i think you spelled your first name wrong. it should be "deborah" and not "debra"
her: are you serious?! i know what my name is!
me: i understand that, but you spelled it incorrectly.
her: are you mad?!?
me: no but i am busy so i will bid you farewell and you will be contacted within 3 days as to whether your application invites a further interview
------------
i would not do that kind of thing now because i have a better understanding that people are real.

I've gotten into way too many unpleasant exchanges because I didn't know if the person was being sarcastic, literal, or attempting humor. So these days I just give them the benefit of the doubt, hope that they meant it in a nice way, and avoid making things worse! 8O

I can be quite sarcastic, I like that kind of humour, :D it is used a lot in the UK, stereotypically so anyway.

I can notice sarcasm in others, most of the time.

I've never really liked sarcasm because the type that I was exposed to was used to hurt. I don't use it either.

I can understand sarcasm because I'm pretty good at dishing it out.

I like British humour, and as such that's probably where I got some of my sarcastic tendencies from.

I've been accused of being sarcastic a few times when I was not, but more often I've had problems with people taking outlandish/sarcastic things I've said waaaay too seriously, and getting pissed off at me for it. When it comes to knowing when to use sarcasm, it's just one of those situations where I wish I had the NT ability to "read" people. I swear, the way NTs can read other people almost seems like a psychic power or something to me.

I'm pretty good at using sarcasm; it's my main form of humour. I'll usually catch it 90% of the time when others use it, though every so often something will fly right over my head and I'll have to ask if they were being serious.
