Will tell you where you learned to talk! :o

(CLICK) to take the quiz...

It was very accurate in my case... Concluding that my dialect most closely matched Jackson MS, Augusta GA, and Little Rock AR.

I have never lived in any of those towns, but I did live in the general region described while growing up.

I totally confused it as I'm not from the USA. My map looks like a patchwork quilt and I'm either from New York, Yonkers or Minneapolis.

This test is pretty neat. I had my current and former residences pop up on it, which surprised me.

It told me my dialect was from Sacramento CA, Santa Rosa CA, and Reno NV. I've never been to any of those areas, but I believe my parents grew up and met in Sacramento. I've never felt like I've stayed anywhere long enough to call home, so I suspect that their upbringing mixed with me not really staying anywhere long enough to grasp any aspects of other local dialects along the way is where the reference to Sacramento is accurate.

I got New York, Boston and Seattle.

Which is probably their way of saying "you're not actually American, are you?". :P

Some of those questions were really interesting, though. I had to look up several of them.

New York, Yonkers and Jersey City (which appear to be around the same general area).

(I'm in Oz, Brisbane.)

Of note, the one person from the US I had a lot of contact with, she seemed to speak similar to how I'm familiar with. We had zero communication problems (other than me talking too quiet).

I got San Jose, CA; Riverside, CA; and Reno, NV. I'm from San Jose! And used to go to Reno all the time!

I got Fremont California, San Jose California, & Honolulu Hawaii. I'm from Louisina but moved to Vermont a year ago. I didn't have specif words for a lot of the questions or the words I used were slightly different so I selected Other. For example the question about what the sandwich is called is pronounced Po`boy in Louisiana but the closest answer on this quiz was Poor Boy so I had to select Other.

That is indeed interesting. South Florida is known as a popular retirement location for people from Up North. I wonder if the dialect study picked up on the migration.

Apparently mine is Philly, Newark/Paterson and Yonkers dialect. Even though I've never lived there.
