The only ones in my real life who know about WP are either on it already or know of my diagnosis by virtue of being close to me. Most of the ones in my life I don't expect to understand, so I don't tell them.

"Its a social website for people on the autism spectrum."

How is possible to NOT understand THAT?

Whats to 'understand'?

I mention "a social website I go to" to folks at work. And my gf hears about the specifics: that its a site for aspies/auties that I spend too much time on. So to varying degrees folks in my life 'know' about it.

Both autism and the internet are a mystery to my family. Altough they think they know. It's funny.

Many people :)

I told my dad, too, when he asked me "what's my favourite website?".

I tell my mother about wp all the time. I even once suggested she go on the site herself but she really didn't want to. It's not like she doesn't understand what it's all about, she's just not into going onto websites just to talk about stuff. It's not like computers are a mystery to her at all though. She likes to look up info about her own interests and even though my brother and I grew up with an Atari 2600, an NES, and a Sega Genesis, she just now has a sudden interest in games, mostly puzzle stuff like Bejeweled!

My good friend knows, but he's the one who introduced me to this site before I was diagnosed. He is a real life friend, yes :)

I've yet to thank him, but without him, I guess I'd never really have thought I had Aspergers.

As far as my family goes, they don't know about WrongPlanet, but they know I use various forums for conventions, video game helps and tips, etc.

after being diagnosed with cancer I joined a breast cancer forum. We would stop hearing from certain people for awhile. Then we would hear from a family member. someone teing us thst person had passed on, but that the person had been so comforted by the support of the site members.
So, morbid, but Ithat is why I tell my kids and husband about coming on here.

I keep the worlds seperate, not many people know apart from my parents who introduced me to the forum eight years ago.

No, not at all. I've mentioned it to people, but nobody has ever looked at it.

I'm very open with people about my autism and about WP, as long as it's someone genuinely interested to learn. In other words, I won't just tell a stranger about the site so they can go laugh at us, or anything.

I told my mum about it because she asked me what I was doing on the internet. Now I'll occasionally tell her about a thread on WP if I think it's really funny or it's about something that my mum does a lot, since she has some autistic traits. She usually laughs. :)

The only person who knows about WP is my closest friend.

No, my internet life is quite separate from my life.

I hope not. I like to keep personal things personal.
