Everyone's acting like he's such a horrible person but I thought he did more good for the gay community than he did bad? Considering his "church" never expanded at all and had very few members (having said that, why did he get so much publicity?) I'd like to think everyone would just look at him thinking "Wait a minute.. why do we hate gay people again? This makes no sense.." Sure, he was a hate-filled man but he did more good than bad, even if we don't want to recognize it - he turned more people pro-gay than he did anti-gay.

All he cared about was causing psychological grief to others look at his tactics! His group wasn't just protesting gays. They were trying to create shock, horror and dismay then they said it was for God and in the Bible. It was God's word. They see themselves as the only true Christians but they go by what's in the Old Testament than they do the New. Jesus died for the sins of mankind it means you can be gay if you want.

I guess a good counter arguement would be that he did harm to the christian community. Every atheist page likes to quote Fred Phelps like he's an accurate representation of what it means to be christian.
Yep hes our hero when it comes to deconvrting Christians and freeing them from being thralls to a book of fairytales!

the reason he is often quoted is because polls show that a lot of christians agree with his message, if not his methods

Well, I'm clearly a Christian who doesn't agree with either the WBC message or methods. I also know members of the LGBT community who are Christians, and obviously wouldn't agree with those nutso bastards, either.

To be frank, the message 'God is hate' is sufficient to declare Fred and his cult heretics.

But I guess nobody found it worthwhile to do that?

Had Phelps lived in the Middle East, and he ran afoul of standard Islamic doctrine with his hate directed at one or another target, he might very well have. But western Christian culture no longer deems this or that person a heretic in our inclusive society where freedom of speech and expression is cherished, even for a rotten old bastard like Phelps and his cult.

And I ask this... what part of "a lot" means all?

Indeed, Kraichgauer does this a lot. He seems to follow the line that 'my friends and my church are not like that so therefore they must be representative of the majority.'

Really! How do you draw this conclusion, God is very hateful, wrathful and downright vicious, even down to allowing the vile death of Jesus, when all he had to do was speak the word and all sins would be forgiven, absolutely no need for an agonising death for any one.

Yes, Phelps would have been right at home in the mythological world of ancient Israel. Probably lots of places in the ancient world. Who knows if the common people actually took that
as seriously as the priests who wrote about it but...

Just pointing out we're not all monsters. As I said, there are LGBT Christians who are despised for who they are by the Fred Phelps' of the world, but still hold to their faith.

Look...

I was stating simply that I don't want to discuss that part... because I know I am very harsh on them... ESPECIALLY with what I am going through right now...

Please don't get snotty

I thought you were being unduly hostile, so if I came across as snotty, I sincerely apologize.

There was no hostility... if it came that way... I am sorry...

I am not in a good place right now.
