SOURCE

I know we're not supposed to speak ill of the dead, but Fred Phelps passed away today, and I for one am glad to see him go. There's supposed to be a balance between love and justice when teaching people about God, and the Phelps family has violated that repeatedly without shame or apology. I don't care how much you disagree with someone's way of life - personal condemnation is NOT what Christianity's about. That's God's job alone, not ours.

I'm so tempted to post Green Day's "Ha Ha You're Dead", but I won't. It's not the Christian way.
And this is coming from someone who is not even a Christian.

The family has the gall to request his funeral not be picketed. This state has been dealing with this organization for a number of years, longer than other areas of the country and have even passed laws specifically targeted at them and they have responded in hateful, venomous ways. Every time there's a natural disaster here this group boasts about it occurring because the state passed this law prohibiting them.
Do you think this will mean change for this group? Maybe they will stop picketing now.

That move screams of hypocrisy, which sadly doesn't surprise me from what I've read about the family.

I shall not attend the funeral, but I do approve of it.

As I've said in another thread regarding this, I almost wish there really was a Hell for him to be sent to.

The gays should damn well picket the hell out of that funeral with signs saying "God Hates Fred Phelps - Burn in Hell!"

Or not.

Man, God is not going to like it when Phelps starts berating him for not being Christian enough.

Somebody sing "Ding Dong The Witch is Dead"

No offense to witches.

I WAS JUST THINKING ABOUT THAT SONG WHEN I HEARD THIS! The only problem is the witch was more made for women, so I was searching for a "bye, loser!" song that would be more gender appropriate. I only found either Green Day's tune or Placebo's cover of "f**k U".

A movie partially set in Kansas is really fitting.

Hope that's the end of that little cult (which I think never grew outside the family).

Let us dance on his grave and paint rainbows on the tombstone.

Probably not. They excommunicated him after he suggested that maybe the members of the church shouldn't hate each other and save all of their hate for other people, because apparently there was a lot of catfighting and drama behind the scenes. They reserved the right to hate the hell out of each other and threw him into a hospice.

Parody protests are probably only half the reason they're not giving him a funeral. They also probably legitimately hate him and think that he's burning in Hell for defying the church that he himself founded. Talk about owned.

The man was a visionary. He was just seeing the wrong century.
