Does the main character on bones have aspergers?

I watched an episode and now I'm wondering.

Yes.

At least her character does.

Although, with the prosody of her voice, I don't think she's acting it. If she is & doesn't have it in real life she does a superb job of it.

Same as Dr. Spencer Reid from Criminal Minds.

No, your favorite character, actor, idol, musician, host, stunt double, gardener, guy in animal costume ect, ect, blah blah blah... does not have autism.

Have you ever seen the show?

She's a scientist stereotype of an Aspie who makes obvious social blunders, misinterprets people all the time, takes things extremely literally, and has the vocal prosody of an Aspie. She, or at least her character, has Asperger's.

I think it's definaltely the intention of the writers to portray her as a person with asperger's. Whether they do a good job or not is up for discussion. Personally I think some things are spot-on, and some, not so much. I can relate to her a lot myself, and I really enjoy the series.

They don't get it right all the time though, but why should they? Their interest lies not in portraying asperger's perfectly, but in creating a likeable, somewhat quirky, character.

I think they're doing quite a good job showing that different does not equal less.

After reading about the show on wikipedia, supposedly her AS traits are speculated to be psychological because of what she had to go through in her teens. That is what had been explained in the show. But yet I have read in the media she was meant to have it and I guess in the show they like to tease the audience about her traits. They choose to not mention the label but yet use a speculation for why she is the way she is.

I'm jealous of her. She has life more together than I ever could.

She does not have crippling sensory issues.


I will credit the show with helping my marriage get through the diagnosis phase. The show seemed to help my husband.

But, she doesn't seem to have enough problems to qualify for a diagnosis (which includes interfering with your daily life).

When I first saw an episode. I couldn't even tell she had it and wouldn't have even guessed. My mom told me if I watch more episodes, I will see it.

My favorite website owner does a lot of amazing things and he does have autism.

I am a Bones fanatic. I have seen every single episode. Temperance is able to make eye contact. Her partner, Seeley Booth, teaches her social skills and eventually marries her. Another Aspie on the show is Zach Addy, her intern. He exited the show in Season 3.

Temperance Brennan? She makes good eye contact. Her head movements and facial expressions are good. I haven't seen her stiming or having sensory issues. I don't know what is her original voice like.

And she is rational.

My mom excitedly told me I had to watch the show because "she's just like you!"

I personally believe she does a great job with her character. She is exaclty what a high-functioning highly gifted women with special interest in people and anthropology would look like in her 30's.
Plus my sister always said I was exactly like Temperance Brennan. That started before knowing I had aspergers. My interest is people too, and I make the same misinterpretations she does. Like, we know all about social rules and stuff from books but somehow we don't get it.
She could be shown doing some stimming though. I think they didn't add it because didn't want her to be obviously autistic. This could lead to a lot of pressure from autistic communities to represent her right etc.
