That's just what I am planning to do this year! :) We have lots of space on our land that we own since 2014 and I am about to fill it with tomatoes and pumpkins and zucchini and kale and so on... I don't have much gardening experience yet, though, so I expect to be making lots of mistakes :)

What is your first name? Raya

Age: 31

Location: Scandinavia

Hobbies and Interests:
writing, making music, learning new things (esp. languages), computers, bicycle, hiking, permaculture (organic gardening), foraging, botany, building stuff, inventing stuff I cannot build, reading, photography, quantum/astrophysics, psychology, philosophy, Rubik's cubes... and probably lots of other things I don't remember right now

Why are you here?
I'm hoping to find interesting people who are actually interested in talking to me, which is and undertaking I usually absolutely suck at (the people I enjoy talking to on a daily basis can be counted on the fingers of one hand).
I also want to find out more about Asperger's and see how people deal with certain problems

Favorite subjects:
Back then it was maths, physics, chemistry, all language classes, ethics (substitute for religion class), gym class (all but team sports), arts, music...
I wasn't always good at all of these subjects, though. It depended on the topic we were studying - I was very picky. I still am, that's probably why I still haven't been able to specialize in anything...

Year/Grade:
Effortlessly got my German high-school diploma, voluntarily dropped out of university after 5 years due to... personal issues I am still not quite clear about

Favorite music:
Too much to fit in here... mostly rock, alternative, Pink Floyd, L. Cohen, Muse, Queen, Grails, Rammstein, Deep Purple, Vaya Con Dios, Portishead... older Russian stuff I grew up with, G. Sviridov, S. Rachmaninoff, J. S. Bach, and whatever comes along and makes me like it.

Books:
"The Master and Margarita" (M. Bulgakov), stuff by Alastair Reynolds, stuff by Dazai Osamu, "Thinking, fast and slow" (Daniel Kahneman), Lermontov's poems, R. M. Rilke's poems, "Atlas shrugged" (A. Rand), stuff by Aldous Huxley, Philip Pullman, "Do androids dream of electric sheep" (Philip K. Dick), "War’s Unwomanly Face" (Svetlana Alexievich), the Bible ... and others I don't recall at the moment

TV shows/Movies:
Star Trek, Firefly, Elementary, Sherlock, Bones, Castle, The Mentalist, Doctor Who, Torchwood, How to get away with murder, The Big Bang Theory, Cowboy Bebop, Samurai Champloo, Ranma...
Blade Runner, James Bond, Batman, Indiana Jones, Star Wars, Good Will Hunting, Princess Mononoke, Moscow doesn't believe in tears, Nebesa obetovannye, Starye klyachi, Sorok Pervyj... and more...

Instrument:
Haven't mastered any, but can play the guitar, a little piano, a little accordion, and learning the violin... which I, probably, will never master, either

Do you like sports?
yes, if it has something to do with physical strength and nothing to do with teams.

Family:
Russian-German roots, great parents, great younger sister; whatever I did - my family always supported me. Great partner - possibly the only man in the world who is crazy enough to enjoy being around me for more than 13 years

Clothing:
Comfortable stuff most of the time. I might wear a dress for a birthday or Christmas or even to the cinema, and I might wear something with heels if they're under 5 cm, and I even might put on some eyeliner... but it always feels unnatural when I go out like this. Maybe I don't like being noticed all of a sudden just because of something I happen to wear at the moment; I don't know what to do with the attention one gets from strangers.

How did you find this website?
Was looking for information on Asperger's.

Job:
Freelance translator

Plans for the future?
Get our land to produce enough for the both of us so that we can eat our own fruits and vegetables all year long and never have to go to the supermarket again. Finish all the novels I've started. Learn more languages. Master at least one instrument. Oh yeah - and fix my head.

Any comments?
My greatest problem with myself is that I never, ever, ask for help when I really need it. And this fact has been sabotaging my life for years. It has also made me pretty strong - and a great faker - but you can only fake it so far. At some point, you break. And when you break, people get hurt. So I decided that I shall look for strategies to ... fix this somehow. Well... any advice is appreciated. I don't know whether I really have Asperger's, maybe I'm just missing something, maybe I just need to find this piece of the puzzle that will make my head function properly.
What I know is that I am not able to handle real emotions - they overwhelm me, so I tuck them away and don't let anyone touch them. I don't know how to deal with sad people, people in distress - I can offer them to try and solve their problem if they explain it to me, but I cannot offer them the comfort they probably need (I myself don't like being comforted). I avoid emotional situations at all cost, diverting from certain topics, putting on a happy face, lying and faking my way through the moment, trying to nip any impending collision of emotions in the bud, knowing very well that there IS an adult way to deal with all this, while desperately trying to ignore the fact that I have no idea as to WHAT this adult way may be. I'm actually pretty good at "reading the mind from the eyes" (I scored 31 out of 36 on that Baron-Cohen test, but it felt like I cheated since I determined several emotions by exclusion and almost none of them by pure intuition...), and I use this skill solely to get through the day smoothly, avoiding stressful people and situations. I even tend to avoid people who like me because they think that I'm good at something - their presumed expectation that I will do something great is just too much for me to shoulder, even if this expectation is just in my head - it feels too real to me, too heavy. I rather dissapoint them by burning all bridges than by not delivering something great... Some of my worst nightmares are those where I suddenly meet these people on the street and have to explain myself to them...
At the same time, I don't like being left alone with my own brain for too long... I like input, I like discussing interesting topics with people who are willing and able to skip the "social" part of the conversation - small talk, polite behaviour that doesn't reflect their true thoughts, waiting for me to say something specific that is part of the "social code", wanting me to guess whether they want something to drink or to eat...
When it comes to intellectual topics, honesty and earnest opinion are all I'm interested in. When it comes to emotions, it's the other way round - I fear honesty as if I could die from it.

TL;DR: My head is messed up and I cannot handle emotions - how do you people deal with it?

Hello, I'm new here and this thread looked like a good place to start. Probably no one will read this post but I thought I'd join in anyway!

What is your first name? Jo

Age: 23

Location: UK

Hobbies and Interests: digital art, computers, the internet, urban legends, non-fiction books, documentaries, watching films and learning behind the scene stuff about how they were made, writing, going to comedy shows, learning about anything and everything

Why are you here? Mostly really looking to find out coping mechanisms and tips from other people who think in similar ways to me. I'm new to this diagnosis and looking to find out what works for me

When were you diagnosed? Diagnosed aspie at the very end of December last year, so still pretty new to me. Was diagnosed ADHD at the same time and dyspraxic earlier in the year, and was also diagnosed cyclothymic 3 years ago so I've got a whole bunch of annoying labels!

Favorite subjects: Not at school any more but am at uni now, studying art. My main interests to do with my course are digital art and the influence of the internet and technology on art production and the art world. I'm really interested in hyperreality and I myself make 3D animated abstract films mostly.

Year/Grade: 4th year of university

Favorite music: The White Stripes/Jack White have always been my favs since I was little, but I also like a big range of other music like Ratatat, Young Fathers, Crystal Fighters, Foxes, Opiuo, lots and lots really

Books: I like non fiction books, particularly about disproving urban legends or what I think are called 'pop science' books. I really like all of Jon Ronson's books too. If I read fiction it's mostly plays, I can't really manage novels.

TV shows/Movies: I like contemporary sorta sci-fi/super hero films like guardians of the galaxy, the fifth element, the amazing spiderman, things like that. The rest of what I like is really varied, I like the Great Gatsby, Factory Girl, The Boat That Rocked,..

Instrument: I don't play any (dyspraxia is part of the reason for this!)

Do you like sports? Not really!

Family: I have an older brother who I suspect is also aspie but is undiagnosed

Clothing: I have a habit of buying lots of clothes, I really like shopping. Most of my clothes are pink, fluffy, or have pictures of aliens on..!

How did you find this website? Actually found it when searching for aspergers jokes

Job: I work as a careers assistant at my university, I love it

Plans for the future? I'd like to train to be a careers advisor and get a job in a university, and get a nice house in the north of England with my other half

Any comments? I'm new to all this forum stuff but I'd like to see where it takes me. Hi anyone reading! :)

Just the tip.

First Name | Not Sino.
Age | Not 45.
Location | GMT -8.
Hobbies, Interests | An unfortunate number of things: astronomy and astrophysics; political science; ancient world history; mythology and folklore; dabbling here and there in linguistics. Picking up a pencil again after years of neglecting my doodles. Writing fiction and poetry by day, tutoring by night (and sometimes the afternoon). Thinking of getting into calligraphy, and by extension, not sucking as much at 中文. Fascinated by lines, shapes, chiaroscuro, typography, themes of incompleteness and isolation; and, increasingly, surreal horror.
Why here? | Blame Wikipedia.
Diagnosis? | Not yet, at any rate.
Favorite Subjects | You can sell just about anything to me if you're a good enough instructor.
Favorite Music | Jazz is my main jam, but I'll take blues, classical, alternative and psychedelic rock, ethnic and folk, and certain electronic artists. A lot of indie artists on my playlists: Radiohead, Jaco Pastorius, 0edit, George Colligan, The Raah Project, Deerhunter, Ali Jackson, Bon Iver, etc. etc. No iPod - I commit favorite tracks to memory and play them back whenever I'm feeling it.
Favorite Books | Plenty. Ender's Game; A Visit from the Goon Squad; A Hologram for the King; Stargirl; Watchmen; and so on. The room is a mess of Juxtapoz, The New Yorker, and literary magazines.
Favorite Movies | Not many, but Pulp Fiction has never let me down. I enjoyed Citizen Kane and Bonnie & Clyde; more recent fare would include Guardians of the Galaxy (that thing is two hours of tech porn, and it's awesome), Django Unchained, Sexy Beast, and Nightcrawlers. Getting into Ghost in the Shell, and already thigh-deep in all things Cowboy Bebop.
Instruments | I play keyboard. Clic-clac-clic-clac-clic-clac...
Sports? | Only if I get to play them. Watching it on TV must be the greatest waste of time since manually slicing bread.
Clothing | Black. Not goth, not emo, but the color is wonderful. Otherwise, darker primary colors, and anything with a suitably abstract design. Fractals are a plus, or will be in any case.
Job | I tell people that their essays suck, and I get paid for it. It's nice.
Plans? | Wouldn't still be in 大学 otherwise. Probably collabs and things of that sort - I tend not to hate artist-type people as much.
Comments? | 1-800-DIALTONE

What is your first name? -

Age: 32

Location: Northern Europe

Hobbies and Interests: I like going for walks (not during panic attacks periods), my animals, taking pictures of my animals, reading, shopping, fashion and beauty, cooking healthy food and learning new things. The Internet…, looking at funny cat pictures and other silly things.
Why are you here? I am trying to accept who I am. That AS is a part who I am. I have always been ashamed of it, for me getting the diagnosis at 17 was like getting kicked in the face. It was a like I was officially disqualified from the real world.

When were you diagnosed?(skip if you don't have a disorder): 2000

Favorite subjects: When I was in school it was history, literature and art.

Year/Grade: -

Favorite music: Depends on what I’m doing or feeling, but in general nothing to noisy or screechy or containing screaming or irritating sounds.

Books: Mostly fantasy, detective, historical

TV shows/Movies: Same as with books and Sci-Fi.

Instrument: None

Do you like sports? Depends, for exercise that makes me feel better and that I can do by myself. Otherwise I can watch sports sometimes on TV, but only big international contests.

Family: Partner, cats, rabbits

Clothing: At home I wear cozy and casual clothes, when I go out of the house I would describe my style as casual/feminine/simple/cute/modest. I like soft colors for the most, a lot of grey, beige, light blue, navy, soft green, white and blush. But sometimes I wear something red or stronger in color; it depends on my mood and has to be the correct shade. I basically dress to look nice without drawing attention to myself, I like blending in.

How did you find this website? I was searching for information about AS.

Job: -

Plans for the future? Trying to be healthy and happy, and not so afraid of everything

Any comments?

What is your first name? Richard

Age: 37

Location: Kentucky

Hobbies and Interests: Music production, art, cooking, philosophy, Bikram Yoga

Why are you here? There are no resources for ASD adults where I live.

When were you diagnosed?(skip if you don't have a disorder): June 2014

Favorite subjects: Theoretical physics, psychology, history

Year/Grade: 2015

Favorite music: Almost any, from Baroque to Volksmuzik. I like electronic music and Volksmuzik because I find the repetition soothing.

Books: By and large I don't do fiction. There are three exceptions. Aside from those I only read non-fiction.

TV shows/Movies: Huge Kaiju movie fan. I love "bad" movies, e.g. early John Waters films. As far as TV goes, I like Criminal Minds and Bones for the obvious reasons, and Archer.

Instrument: I don't play an instrument per se, I program and sequence samples. I've released three albums that have sold on three continents.

Do you like sports? No.

Family: Not very close, most don't know I am on the spectrum.

Clothing: 99% of the time

How did you find this website? I write a blog about living with depression, anxiety, PTSD, and ASD. I found this site looking for resources for my readership.

Job: Data Analyst for a Fortune 500 company

Plans for the future? I lack an imagination, so planning is very difficult.

Any comments? With all due respect to everyone else, I loathe the terms "Aspie" and "Aspergerian". I don't identify with Asperger's, I just happen to be an individual who was born with it, and don't care to be labeled as such.

Age: 38

Location: New England

Hobbies and Interests: Music, handcrafts, gardening, cooking

Why are you here? I had a bad meltdown last May and figured I should join up here for support.

When were you diagnosed?(skip if you don't have a disorder): Not yet diagnosed

Favorite subjects: music (esp. theory & composition), history, philosophy/religion, art (appreciation - I have no talent), basically anything "humanities" related

Year/Grade: ?
