There was a really interesting investigative BBC documentary on this period and where Rwanda is now.

It questions the official account of the Genocide.

It never denies the genocide, nor does to dispute the Hutu massacre of Tutsi. What it does is question the line of Paul Kagame, which although officially supposedly discourages these ethic distinctions, at the same time squarely put the blame of the massacre only on the on the Hutu.

There are some issue with this account, for instance the demographic at the time was hard to pin down and there is some evidence the massacres occured on both sides.

Also after the genocide ended there was a war over the border in the Congo that that killed more people than the genocide, mostly Hutu. Paul Kagame was responsible for these forces.

Also Paul Kagame paints himself as the savior who brought an end to the massacre, but this historical account doesn't really add up, if anything it showed he is more undeterred by the massacre, used it for political gain and was more interested in the aims of his RPF.

Then there is the lack of opposition, and jail for those who have and opposing view. Also the lack of Hutu, in positions of power. There are people who where close to him, in his part and in his army, who are now spilling the beans.

These people have had attempt on their lives, and have been even been assassinated in South Africa. SA took the step of kicking the Rwandan diplomatic mission out of the country.

Now it is entirely possible that the Hutu were mostly a fault, if that is the case then the truth will out. Anybody who has tried to look into this, as found themselves persona non grata in Rwanda.

Rwanda is now an an economic success story, and there is a reluctance to rock the boat. However having lived in two African countries, I know thing aren't so simple, and I wonder if resentment will build up and we could have a black swan event.
