That is usually given for severe depression and it is controversial. There has been a history torturing autistics with it to try shock the Autism out of them. If I remember you are in your 50's. As many of you American baby-boomers and older may remember back in 1972, Democratic nominee for President George McGovern being forced to dump his running mate Thomas Eagleton after it was revealed he had underwent "shock treatment" for depression.
