So today I participated in a study by the psych department of my university. My motivation was completely monetary, they were going to pay me $11 an hour. It was about synesthesia. I know a tiny bit about synesthesia. I was like "it's those people who see numbers as colours, right?" I was just there to be part of the non-synesthete control group. He was like "we screen everybody because occasionally we find someone who says they don't have synesthesia, but they actually do - there are so many types of synesthesia." Apparently I am one of those people.

He screened me and it showed that I possibly had synesthesia where the sound of musical instruments have colours for me. I never added this up in my head and went "oh, synesthesia". So he tested me with this program and I came out consistently identifying the same colours with the same instruments. And he was like "now I'm going to have to switch you out of the control group"

So... I don't know. It's kind of cool. Kind of weird. The bonus is now I get to come back for a second day of testing and get paid more money. And there's this really cool study that I might get invited to in January where they play music and have people with synesthesia draw what they see.

Anyone else? I know there are other threads on this but they all seemed so old.

i sorta wish i had synesthesia, but i have tourettes and aspergers and ocd and adhd so maybe that's enough...

i'm a music composer so i'd be interested in knowing what you see when you heard my music. I know that's asking a lot of you so you don't have to of course but here's where my music can be found:

If you listen to any of it then i'd love to know what colours or images you saw... but you don't have to or anything if you don't want to.
