My opinion is there could be some truth to the Jesus myth meaning he was a religious Jew who despised Roman oppression and longed for a Messiah to deliver the Jewish people from the sinning, idol worshipers and was preparing to do it himself but then was crucified by the Romans for being a rebel.
The Caesars would have found this attractive, the story of rebels being crucified and the church was a violent oppressor for quite a while.

The problem with that theory is, Christianity was declared an outlaw religion by the Roman emperors of that era, and at times violently persecuted. Forgive me, but that hardly makes much sense for the emperors to try stamping out their own creation.
As for Christ being an amalgamation of various deities and religious figures - I've heard that theory before, but I have to question if Confucius would have been included, as what was going on in China might as well have been happening on another planet. And for that matter, I question if Romans are going to include in that amalgamation the god Thor, as he was the thunder god of their Germanic enemies - memories of the loss of Germania with the massacre three legions in the battle of the Teutoberg forest was still fresh in the minds of the Romans.

The big Cultures before Rome, The Greeks and the Semites.
Greekery was failing, Egypt made them all look like children.
So 150 years after the claimed events, the New Testament was written in Greek.
Christ was modeled on Alexander, who's mother was a Virgin of the Temple of the Sun.
Alexander died at 33, and had a left chest wound.
The Oracle declared that Alexander was a god.
The Jews were waiting for a Messiah.
Greeks admitted that they got their gods from Egypt, and the Romans got theirs from Greeks.
So Fan Fiction, writing in an Alexander character as the Jewish Messiah, and blaming the Jews for killing him.
Double strike, make the Romans the bad guys.
Monotheism had some good points, consolidating all that Temple and Priest money.
Egyptian gods were well known, and 13,000 years old. Early Greek gods had a temple for every twenty people.
The Romans did that and made it worse, with Emperors being declared gods.
Jesus was teaching The Law to the Jews, driving the money changers out of the temple, and then went on to live a Greek life, with his male friends.
The same plot, recent, in Dune, Frank Herbert, an Islamic desert people is waiting for the Madhi, the enlightened one who will lead them to victory. He comes as an outsider that fills the prophecy, knows their ways without teaching, they think of killing him, but then follow him. His mother is of the Temple.
The Greeks were literate and cultured, and broke. Egypt had grain, Rome an Army, the Jews a Book, the Greeks were has beens. They did have theater, they could put on a play.
