Neli Latson granted conditional pardon

Latson was autistic and had an IQ of 69 IIRC. He was questioned by a police officer for the crime of waiting outside a library before it opened and ended up punching the officer. While in prison, he was placed in solitary. I don't know the conditions, but I expect he'll be placed in a temporary residential treatment facility. I just hope it's not an abusive one.

Hooray, inept authorities botching a situation involving an autie! Like I haven't seen this play out before....

I can only hope he at least goes to a supportive residential program and not the living hells like JRC. And also, do you really need to get in a fuzz with a dude who was waiting outside a library before it opened? Why are police wasting resources on minor offenses?

I'm so very happy to read this! I signed a petition, shared it, blogged about it. with the public outcry for justice, this young man would be free of the nightmare and torture he'd indured. because solitary confinement is torture, i believe. prison is torture, which is ok for real criminals, but Neli punched a cop, not killed him. a man punching his wife would spend a night in jail and that's it.

and the cops should've left him alone. he was only waiting for the library to open, and they should'nt have provoked him like this. he exaggerated his reaction by punching the cop, and it was wrong. but to lock him up for so long, and in solitary confinement, with his mental problems, to tear him from his mother. this is so wrong. a cruel and unusual punishment.

that's what i'd like to see each and every time a person is mistreated, nt or aspie. i'd like to see the public scream their heads off. because this is what happens when you do. you get justice.
