I generally consider myself to be in the center of the political spectrum but how left or right wing i am at the moment tends to revolve around people around me

in incredibly liberal and progressive areas such as the GTA i tend to support right-wing policies more and approve of conservationism more. Where as in more right-wing areas where conservationism is really common I tend to find myself leaning more left when around that area

Is this a common thing or am I just a hipster who wants to like what other people don't?

Yeah I somewhat identify with your statement. My political worldview is "fluid" to say the least.

It's totally normal to be middle of the road- left leaning on some issues and right leaning on others. I am. I haven't met many true lefties or righties. I think the major wingnuts are just characters played by politicians and media personalities.
