These are cool because they look so much like roots or lightning. One guy thought it was a fractal but the man who did it says it cannot be one because it doesn't keep repeating portions. It's interesting to see the patterns the electricity made in the pieces of wood though.

Lichtenberg figures are not fractals. Rivers form similar structures. The path of least resistance.

The man who created that particular one made it into a coffee table.

Glass figures are popular decorations.

What's strange is the guy who said it was a fractal knows a lot about fractals. Not sure what he was getting it and didn't want to annoy him by asking. He publishes sci fi and science books.

They resemble fractals, but the structure is not self-repeating. The flow is just propagating along the path of least resistance. Some even believe geological formations like mountains, fjords, and even rivers are electrical phenomenons due to structural similarities, but that's an overgeneralization. It is simply just a principle of flow.

He could have just meant the structure is similar.

It is similar in the sense that it breaks down into smaller and smaller filaments.

And this has what to do with politics, philosophy, and religion?

We often discuss science things here. Can you see God in a fractal?

I guess it could have gone in the science forum but I got confused because I see so much about climate change in PPR. Climate change does have bit to do with politics true but the threads seem to be more about if it is real or not and that does sound sciencey.

So I didn't know where to put this.

I guess this is a chance to set a precedent, then? :D

.

I am working on this tedious project at the moment and it's so repetitious I can't help but think of fractals though it isn't quite the same because fractals keep getting smaller but they go on continuously then I got to thinking, eventually, the fractal parts will be so tiny no one can see them so in this sense, couldn't the pattern be a fractal only we cannot see all of it with the naked eye?

Seems fractal to me.

The electricity is taking the "path of least resistance", and the "path of least resistence" is between the cells in the wood. And the wood grain is dictated by the DNA of the tree in a fractal pattern.

And humans could duplicate the pattern by means of programing a computer with a fractal equation.

It would be a remarkable discovery, no doubt.

I know what fractals are, I don't know enough to determine if that is or is not, but that sure is cool looking.

Thanks for posting!

i get that same impression when i look at maps, or work on my own. from county lines to city boundaries, districts, blocks to alleyways. smaller divisions and fragments.

what kind of project?
