^ Fair enough, but in all my investigations, these three places are described as villages or parishes. Population of Nadadouro apparently 1,904. :)

No matter how many signs, there are on the recycling bins, people will not read them.

Today, I learnt that fandom's first history was written and published by Jack Speer in 1939. Link

12 inches = 1 foot
3 feet = 1 yard

These two I already knew. But the next ones were interesting to me:

22 yards = 1 chain
10 chains = 1 furlong
8 furlongs = 1 mile

(Not "approximately equal" but "equal", for all of them.)

Therefore, 1 mile = 8 furlongs = 80 chains = 1760 yards.

Pointless, but still pretty interesting.

Grid cells located in the endorhinal cortex regulate the individuals sense of space. I have a horrible sense of direction, evidently mine dislike me.

^^^ That reminds me of a girl I worked with many years ago who married a guy named Kiss. It looked strange when she signed her new name.

I guess she could simply have signed with an X!

I just read that spider-fighting is a popular if not very humane pastime in Florida prisons. The inmates catch and keep them as pets. I also read that three inmates got into a nasty fight over the theft of a beloved arachnid. :spiderman:

That soaking your fingernails in nail polish remover for at least 15 minutes can remove your French manicure if needed.

One popular theory of the origin of the traditional faceless Amish Doll is that a little girl once received a rag doll with a face as a gift, but her Amish father became upset and cut its head off, saying that "Only God can make people".

Um, if only God can make people, then what's with all those stories about how a daddy plants a seed in the mommy's tummy to... aw, never mind.

Anyway, the father replaced the doll's head with a stuffed sock, and she happily played with it for years.

Apparently another reason the dolls are faceless is because of the Commandment that tells not to worship false idols. Since I collect faced dolls, make faced dolls and draw faces on my cartoon characters I must have a special reservation in Hell by now, next to the serial killers and drug dealers.
