Once (at the beginning, when infatuation was likely active) my ex was reading some email archives of mine where I mention wanting to be loved... and he just cried... I assume due to some connection in the mind with then-present circumstances... but it dissipated seven months later, so... why would someone cry involuntarily if the strength of their love was just that long? Or should length not be considered?

Perhaps he was crying out of compassion for your previous state of loneliness and feeling unloved.

This. Someone who has never met you before & has no romantic love for you might be moved to tears if they read that, too.
