I think I'll go old school and say Hawthorne's "A Scarlet Letter".

I somewhat like the ideal myself, although it should be choice and not forced. It would cause some people to look down on us and possibly try to take advantage but it would also help with meeting others that share our curse. This world wouldn't be such a lonely place if that was a bit easier.

Hell no. We're stigmatized enough without someone forcing us to wear a big sign. It's one thing if you choose to wear a wristband (for example, someone needing accommodations might wear a wristband to ensure he/she gets them), but to be forced to wear one? No. Just no.

Maybe the wristband proponents in the U.K. government could resurrect the color schemes that German Nazis developed for their concentration-camp badges (the "mentally ill" were forced to wear black badges). Why waste government funds just to reinvent the wheel?

Glad to see I wasn't the only thinking Nazi Germany when I heard this.

This is a storm in a teacup.

As stated before this is a candidate, who isn't even elected causing controversy. The fact that she has caused controversy, actually should bring confidence.

People are allowed to have ideas however stupid they may be.

I actually think she hasn't thought it through properly. It is an example of moral panic. No need for moral panic in response. Just criticise it thoroughly.

The Mirror is also a British tabloid newspaper, it isn't exactly the highest standard of journalism. They like stories they they can hype up, and cause moral outrage by feeding the answer to the readership. Doen't matter if previous article have been hypocritical to this cause.

Nobody should be forced to wear anything to indicate their demographic against their wishes. I would sooner go to prison. They may as force people to wear yellow stars.

As for the OP, Autism isn't a mental illness so it shouldn't apply to us.

It would be a diabolical precedence.

I would like to think this is just one rogue fruitcake tory backbencher.

Unfortunately for the conservative party it has its fair share.

No on any wristband or other marking.

And I'd continue to refuse even if it were law.

Actually the woman who made this offensive suggestion is only an as-yet unelected Conservative candidate in the upcoming UK election, so she has no authority to put this idea before Parliament, let alone implement it.

Maybe she should be forced to wear a blue wristband. At least until the 2020 election :)

Hey! What if someone is a lesbian AND "mentally ill?" Would she get TWO badges?!? It could be like the boy/girl scouts merit badge system.
