Finding one's talents is seldom a matter of waking up with special aptitudes; instead, it's curiosity followed by exploration ehanced by luck and opportunity. Savants aside, being talented is relative - relative to place, time and audience.

I'm a career counselor, by the way, and I see a lot of 'late bloomers'. Personality traits considered a liability in some occupations are assets in others; it's a matter of square pegs finding square holes and round pegs finding round holes. Some people do what they love for a living and others work so they can do what they love after work.

Where you live and whether you travel can open or limit your opportunities, too. You can't be a world class surfer if you don't leave Kansas.
