In your view if someone devoted their life to a cause that would greatly benefit a lot of people if succesful; but it comes at the risk of being harmed or dying and the risk that you aren't successful. What would you think?

Would you say someone who does this is foolish for trying to change things when they don't have to?

Would you say that person is honorable for doing what they believe in? What about if they die and their goal is never reached?

Some examples i can think of are: the people who stood against slavery in a time where it was a normal thing.
The suffragettes, those who lived in a dictatorship and have revolted against the government, those who flee from a war torn country risking their lives trying to move to a safer one, some environmentalists, dare I say IS, in their view what they're doing is worthy.
