Earlier today, I bought Chuck Palahniuk's latest novel, "Rant," although I'm already finished with it. Tomorrow, I'll either re-read "Rant" or finish "Ulysses" by James Joyce; it depends on whether or not I'm up to digesting any new material.

I'm re-reading all the Harry Potters, and I'm 3/4 through The Order of the Pheonix, which I hope to finish tonight.

I have Tolkien's Children of Hurin sitting on my nightstand to be read next. once I'm done with the Potter series to date.

A HISTORY OF GOD
by Karen Armstrong

Also: not currently reading it but have many times:
THE CURIOUS INCIDENT OF THE DOG IN THE NIGHT-TIME
by Mark Haddon

It's a short, fictional novel written in the first person by a boy with autism as he perceives the events going on around him. I would recommend to anyone here. Easy to read and very good.

I'm reading
Strange Brains and Genius: The Secret Lives of eccentric Scientists and Madmen
It's great fun. The first chapter is on Tesla.

One interesting fact - most of the people mentioned had a fondness for milk. One person's diet consisted solely of milk and pork.

I'm reading 'Fate, Love and Ecstasy' by John A Sandford ~ archetypes in Greek mythology

And 'Ka' by Roberto Calasso ~ Hindu mythology told as stories involving the gods. I've been reading this for ages but it's so beautifully written, I don't want to finish it.

My current bedtable books are Holidays in Hell by P.J. O'Rourke and a book with a title like 1001 paintings you should see before you die.

One of those books that I've a) thought I had already read and b) didn't notice, because it's a "children's book" (sic)...

I've just read Terry Pratchett's "the AmaziNg Mau®iCe aND his EDuCatEd RØdENts".

He's so good at coming up with expressions that you wish you'd thought of, and can't wait to use:

Quote:
Trying to give a cat orders? It was easier to nail jelly to a wall.

"The Fifth Miracle" (The Search for the Origin of Life) by Paul Davies. Somewhat of a slow start - I've 1/3 through and I'm still not quite sure where he's coming from / going to. :)
