Some people on the spectrum do end up feeling stomach aches from dairy products, and I know that is absolutely true for me big time.

I haven't noticed anything with them. I know my mom's both allergic and lactose intolerant, but I've had no problems.

COULD be the milk.... or it could be all the sugar and other crap in there as well. I'm OK with milkshakes and icecream, but lollies and any drinks with lots of flavourings or colourings (like soft drinks) don't do me any good at all.

Dairy products are wierd for me. Milk and(sadly) ice cream gum up my GI tract something fierce. Most Yogurt and cheese doesn't hurt me though.

I have no problems. Nor do my brothers. Mum can't have ANY dairy 'cause of her Ulccerative Colitis, but that's not anything linked to Autism.

It is certainly possible that dairy products affect your emotions and advocates of the casien free diet would argue that this can exacerbate your autistic behaviours, and should therefore be avoided completely. But dietary interventions are controversial, so it is probably doing some research and thinking about whether or not the affects that dairy has on you are things that you want to stop, or minor issues that are not really worth getting too concerned about.

I am on the gluten free diet which has helped me as my moods are now more stable (I was either tired or hyper all the time!) and I feel awake for the first time in my life!

I also have a low dairy diet because too much dairy causes me to have an upset stomach and 'soft' diary such as milk and ice cream make me cough and have catarrh as well.

But diet is such an individual thing and everyone is different.

One of my relatives says her son has autism related to food allergies. He's allergic to tons of stuff, and apparently when he eats any of it his autistic behaviors get worse.

I also have colitis and have 2 Aspie sons. I have talked to other women who have colitis and have autistic children, as well.

Casein is known for its autistic effects. Doesn't seem to affect me, but is recognised to affect many people.

Get soya milk instead and do homemade ice cream - I changed due to health reasons (cow hormones, homogenisation) and far prefer it.

Chocolate milk is my favorite thing to drink. It doesn't bother me at all.

I have one profoundly autistic brother and my twin is mid-range. But he could never qualify for a job or anything. And I'm self-diagnosed Aspie.

You think it's more common amongst families involved with Autism?
Perhaps due to the stress?

I've actually never gotten brain freeze, although people always seem surprised by that. I guess most people do.
