PS- Psychopathy and Psychotic aren't the same thing.

Now, I think a far better candidate for Aspergers and who still happens to be ALIVE is the Unabomber.

Discuss amongst yourselves. :)

I would love to continue to debate the Dahmer topic, but am leaving the country for 10 days 3:30 this AM...perhaps when I get back.

Although I strongly disagree with several of the points in your assesment of Dahmer. I agree with you on this one

Dahmer sounds Autistic to me. His childhood seems oddly like my own, minus the animal bones of course. His father defanitely sounded AS (or HFA), so it makes him (Dahmer) a prime candidate.

BTW, I think the Unabomber's been discussed before and AS was ruled out.

Why wait till he's dead to dx him though? He was alive in the nineties so it all seems too convenient.

They seem to be doing their own version of cannibalism on JD, dis(re)membering the corpse and being obsessed with pieces of it.

I also don't find their method scientific. They reached a conclusion then felt they had to find evidence prove that conclusion and no other. This type of thinking usually means people ignore anything that would disprove their claim. I think a genuine scientific method is more open to other results than that. I'm not sure as I couldn't locate the footnote reference to the authors but it seems the authors are all GPs, not psychiatrists or any other type of head doctor.

I don't dispute that we have our own murderers and criminals in AS, but I don't want to see it become a 'one size fits all' label stuck on any crime with a 'bizarre' character, or on any perceived 'misfit' as I'm concerned about the social need for scapegoats - the need to feel that all evil is done by 'not us'. I think it's important to note and object to any trend to negatively stereotype AS people as 'violent' or 'criminals' or whatever.

Sarcastic, the Unabomber was discussed for maybe having AS but it wasn't ruled out. If you're refering to him receiving the diagnosis of Schizophrenia during the trial, it is easy enough to see that being labeled with a Psychotic Illness won him a lesser punishment (i.e., life in prison and not the death penalty). The Schizophrenia diagnosis was a TACTIC.

But look at his childhood behavior. You can't get more Aspergers than that. Sincerely.

Jeffrey Dharma may have had "asperges tendencies" but I'd suggest he had something more than just that - whatever it is, I'm glad nobody I've ever come across has it.

One funny thing:

The last track of "51_13 The Singles Collection" by Aphex Twin is called "Respect List".

Here is my deciphering of the lyrics:

Quote:
Respect going out to Shammi, Maffu, Gentle John, Cylob Industries, Grant and Ted

Thanks to Jeffrey Dahmer and Albert Fish,
Leila and 109,
Danny, Rob and Steve
Stuart Mike and Eel
Matt Loach and His dogs next door
Jim and Tom Vulva, Rhysa
Phillie-T
Maurice and Gwen.

I don't know about most of it but definately the "Thanks to...." part is correct.

I love that guy (Aphex Twin not "J.D.")

Speaking of 'famous' Wisconsinites :o , even though he did his deeds before most or all of our times (in the 1950s), what about Ed Gein?

No. He was just raised in a bad family and was mentally disturbed. He did not have any AS traits in my opinion.

It also my opinion that Dahmer did not have AS and was not even on the autistic spectrum infact i think he was on a syndrome of his own.....................insane in the membrane! i find this qiute disturbing that he is even likened to anyone with AS.
I know that there is a small chance that people with AS can do criminal acts, as can most people NT's included but the chances of someone with AS doing anything like he did, would i belive be extremly rare, i dont think anything about him fits into the AS criteria.

Are you saying that someone with AS is incapable of doing what Dahmer did? Just because someone has AS doesn't automatically make them a good person. There are probably people with AS who do horrible things, like murder.

It is likely that Dahmer had other issues, but it is difficult to call someone insane. In psychology, there is no such thing as insane. It is only a leagal term that courts use.

I'm guessing everyone else on the list are just random people that he knows personally and aren't famous. That's what makes it funny.
