Prom? What prom? Oh, you mean that rite of passage in which I was supposed to buy an obscenely-priced dress and spend the evening at some boring dance being scared stiff due to social anxiety and getting laughed at for "trying" to dance?

Heck no I didn't go. Wasn't high school enough torture in and of itself?

At our school, we had a Senior Banquet, which was very nice. I enjoyed that much more than I would have enjoyed a prom. I doubt, at the time, if I would have been the kind of person anyone would invite to dance.

I went to mine. I probably shouldn't have.
It was sad. The big glitzy popularity contest at it's best and me all alone. It was really no place for me to be.
Should have stayed home and played games.

I went to my prom. I got stood up by my first girlfriend (an NT), before I had any idea she was cheating on me. She left me because she met a guy who had a nicer car, and is the reason I limit my girlfriend search to other Aspies.

But the food at prom was delicious!

Didn't go to the prom or any other school dances (tried to go to the first one in junior high, but the music was so loud that I never got past the door of the gym).

All those idiots dressed in fancy clothes, arriving in hired Limos... I never liked the idea of that. Delusional behaviour, if you ask me.
So, you can imagine my glee when the 'popular kids' payed me £15 not to go! Talk about money for nothing...

The school I attended had no prom. I attended a boarding school and until right before my junior (grade 11) year was an all boys school of approximately 90 students. At the beginning of my junior year the school started accepting girls. Nonetheless, by the time my senior year roll around there were only about a dozen girls.

90 in each year group or 90 in the whole school?

I went to an all boys school too. It had some boarders, but mostly "day boys" (me).

I never went to any school dances.

We were forced to do dancing classes with a girls school. I asked a girl from dancing classes (Vicki M - still remember her 30 years later) if she would go the the school dance. She said "let me think about it". I couldn't call back. For all I know she is still thinking about it - lol

I never went to my prom, for two reasons: (1) I couldn't a date to save my life, and (2) I'd get mocked and made fun of the second I walked in there. But from what people told me, the prom was located in a banquet room at a hotel downtown. Judging from the yearbook photos of the previous year's prom, it was nicely decorated, and light snacks were served (no alcohol, obviously). Some people rented rooms to have an after-prom party and other "after-prom activities". Once I got my diploma, I walked out of the school building, and never looked back.

However, last summer (in 2006), I encountered a MAJOR twist of irony. I got lonely, so I reserved an appointment with an escort. Imagine my surprise when I found out that the girl was working at the same hotel where my high school prom was! When I told the escort about this, she got a really good laugh from it, and made a joking reference to the American Pie movie.

never went, no one asked is gonna ask "That weird girl who LIKES to read". always wondered what it would be like, but i'm sure i would have been extreamly unconfortable so it's proably for the best.

Ok. Got an interesting one for yas. But not 'til I get to the Senior Prom part. lol.

Went to lots of dances in HS. None were all that much fun, but it was nice to have something to look forward to...even if it was always a considerable letdown. I went to homecoming Freshman and Sophomore years....rather boring and stressful. Junior year I went to homecoming with my girlfriend at the time that I met during band camp...although she was in flag corps/color guard. I went to the Winter Semi-formal with her as well as Prom for junior year...all pretty lame, save for the out-making. Senior year, we decided to skip Homecoming and have a nice night out by ourselves...we went to a nice Japanese restaurant, followed by Rush Hour 2 in the theatre, followed by a considerable amount of time in a minivan. By the time winter semi-formal rolled around, we had broken up and I had a new gf that lived 600 miles away. By senior prom, I was again single, after realizing how pointless/expensive long distance relationships are. I didn't really have many friends left at school and didn't really have anyone to go to prom with, so I asked my first real gf.

Now comes the interesting part...Lily(date/ex) had been going through a semi-goth phase, and wanted to "scare" people at my Catholic HS(prob. the only reason she went). She showed up with electric blue hair and makeup and a short blue skirt, I wore a black suit with a red plaid punk rock tie and a bondage collar. I had longish hair tied up and braided (kinda like a cat o' nine tails) with the underneath shaved.

I'm sure we drew some attention from the teachers/chaperones, but no one said anything. During dinner, she put green beans in her nostrils, and one of my friends took pictures(I still have, might be able to post later). After dinner, when the "dance" part started, we went off to a quiet area and sat in a chair and she called her best friend at the time. I think this was all planned out, because her friend showed up dressed in a similar fashion. She went out the front door, and had me waiting by the side to let them in. I didn't think it was a very good idea, but I didn't say anything(imagine that)(I'm not one to do any of this stuff). When she banged on the door, I let them in and went straight to the bathroom( for real). When I came back there were two teachers(Theology teachers nonetheless) waiting for me. They told me that I should know that I'm only allowed one date, and that one of them had to leave. As a result, they both left, mostly likely exactly according to their plan.

I spent the rest of the night and morning tagging along with the few friends I had through Drama Dept./Band activities. That weekend The Popes were playing wiht Seanchai as opener. My dad is super close with Seanchai, so we hung out with them on the bus after the show. I got a little drunk/stoned and it was pretty late on a Sunday. I showed up at school on Mon. with about 3 hours sleep and half a buzz. I had forgotten all about prom already, so I was confused as to why I was called to the principal's office. The principal asked me why I had my hair "skinned" to my head at prom and if I was going to fix it, and that was about it....I got off scott free. The thing was that I had been wearing my hair like that for a couple months and no one said anything, so I was even more confused.

Now I look back and wonder what would have happened had I been someone else, if I would have caught a detention or something. I wonder if they let me off because they knew I had a social disorder/Asperger's even though I had no clue at the time(I thought I was just shy). Pretty much all of the teachers were really nice/lenient towards me...all but one.

Anyway, hope this was interesting and something towards what the topic was started for. Maybe I'll get around to posting a picture or two.

Never went to the one in year 11, I was even asked if I was going by people I never even spoke to, *Daniel shakes his head*; my mad mind went and burnt the boat down with everyone aboard -- I was getting quite perturbed around this time. Left at the end of 11 so I missed 12 (I wouldn't have gone anyway unless I was homicidal or something; I may've just burnt the hall down literally if I stayed at the school any longer).

I thought the whole event was hilarious.. It was fun observing the people who took it seriously and treated it like a milestone in life.

At my convocation my friend and I got really really high right before. When they called my name - we had to write down our plans for the future so the principle could read them out - they said "Adam plans to build tables for the homeless and preach to the youngins."

In the yearbook we also got to have our future plans published and mine were to invent rocket powered rubber boots so I could get around quicker in the rain.

Skipped my senior prom, but, surprisingly, I did attend the junior one. Had no car, brought no date, but danced with my mutual crush three times (who also had no date). She had made it clear earlier that she wanted me to ask her, but it's kind of embarrassing to ask a girl out without a frickin' car! At least, if you don't have money for a limo.
