sounds easy to me... only one of my kids is autistic.

Even thought she isn't autistic, my daughter isn't NT though so at least I understand her a little ;)

Good lord, don't read the comments section. It is chock-full of hate and vitriol. The article is pretty good, though. Its a great example of how autism occurs on a spectrum. The kids range from Aspie to classically autistic.

Anyone else notice the correlation between age, thimerosal exposure, and severity?

Oldest - highest functioning with AS
next 2 oldest - next highest functioning with AS
next 2 - lowest functioning with classic autism
youngest - least severe with PDD-NOS

Most likely, the oldest received the least amount of thimerosal and the others born later received more than the others which made the autism more severe each time. The youngest child probably got thimerosal-free vaccines which resulted in her being the least severe of all of them.

Anyone know where I can send them a donation to pay for chelation treatments?

For the last f*****g time, mercury does not cause autism.

When in doubt, ask an autistic. Chances are, they're obsessed with what you need to know.

Autism Speaks will NEVER speak for me

CLASSIC AUTISM

Agreed.

It's only meant to be used as an extreme last resort in cases of acute toxicity. Even then, it's dangerous and not a pleasant experience.

If I were poisoned by either lead or mercury, I'd rather die than get chelated.

I read their blog where the father was responding to some of the comments. I cannot believe how mean some people can be! They judge others without knowing anything about their situation. :(

Once more, you show that you can't even read a story correctly. The ages are so close together that there is no reason to believe they have varying amounts of vaccines in their system due to vaccine changes or trend. The vaccine schedule would be the same from 1993-2004. And the youngest has the "mildest" form.

Chelation is for acute poisoning and there are enough studies to put that one to rest.

I don't understand the nasty comments about the family. I mean, yes, there's intolerance to big families no matter what. But the only child she could possibly predict might be autistic is the youngest one. The oldest one wasn't suspected to be AS until he was 10 and most of the other kids were already born.

That family is no more unusual than the one I grew up in, except they have a name for why they're weird. I have four siblings and only one of us isn't weird. And my mother is weird, too. Now there's a name for our kind of weirdness.

I guess nobody would have ever done an article about my family back then, saying "In this family, four out of five of the kds are weird and so is the mother."

And to think some people said that ASDs were entierly caused by environmental factors.
