My father, the military man that he is, always tried to get me to stop walking on my toes. "HEEL! TOE! HEEL! TOE!" I'd hear while walking... it was insanely frustrating.

Personally, I see no issue with walking on my toes. I'm quieter, quicker, and taller. 3 things that make me think that perhaps it's an evolutionary advance. *announcer voice* We are the next step in evolution!

haha

Whenever I am barefooted or wearing socks only, I tiptoe. My leg and upper body movements are also very strange; so much so that I find them difficult to describe! I cross one leg over the other when I take a step and I also twist and turn my upper body. However, I experience no such issues when wearing shoes!

People who promote bare feet as a lifestyle seem to think that tiptoeing is the most natural and healthy way to walk, report that it is evident in the arches and overall alignment. We probably don't stomp much, when going barefoot. I think of treading carefully, through tall grass.

Noting the development of my calve muscles, coaches facetiously asked whether I had taken ballet.

I do hard, physical labor in bare feet, including splitting wood, rock climbing, and occasional shoveling. I sometimes pick up goats heads thorns, but they barely penetrate, now, even when callouses are smoothed away.

I save shoes for going out, in public. My compromise is open toes or round toes. I feel that they are still burdensome, but going bare feet often elicits a strong, negative response, even in campgrounds.

And, I am more prone to walk on tiptoes.

I do have sprains or injuries, but they are never long lasting.

Did it all throughout childhood, even when I wasn't barefooted. I've pretty much limited it to barefoot walking at this point but it still happens. Got a lot of crap for it my whole life but whatever.

Yep. Just how I walk when I'm barefoot. Only feel comfortable walking normally in a pair of $300 eccos.

And about the outer brink/balancing thing, well, it's like this:

I walk only on the coloured area... if that were a 3-D foot. You folks get the idea.

I tend to walk like this most of the time, then somehow spontaneously start toe-walking at random. I also tend to toe-walk if I'm climbing stairs (in public, I have to resist the urge to "cat walk" on all fours). Also, if I'm sitting without shoes, my toes get bent back over the top of my foot, but if I have shoes on, only the tip of my toes touch the ground.

I toe-walked more when I was a kid. I will still do it on unfamilliar carpet or surfaces. Its like I'm protecting my feet from potentially finding something sharp or pointy. Maybe its the greater contact area of my flat feet that I worry about.

I only ever do that when I am walking up the stairs. I used to go upstairs on all fours at one point.

Tiny Tim used to be one of my special interests. I feel so embarrassed admitting that. My interest expanded to include outsider music as a whole, which is more rewarding than obsessing over only a single long dead, highly eccentric ukulele player.
