Why? I mean, seriously... what's so fun about moving your limbs in key with a song? Especially when the chances of messing up and being humiliated are so high. I do not understand why anyone finds this "fun."

How can it not be fun?

What if no one is around to see you would you dance then?

I guess for me, it all comes from being a music lover of sorts.

I just don't find much entertainment value in moving my limbs in completely nonsensical ways. But maybe I would if I was an NT... they're able to find entertainment in all kinds of mindless stuff.

No.

I like music too... even some of the kinds of music which other people regard as "danceable"... but that does not mean that I want to dance to it.

I've found dancing fun only once in my life, over ten years ago. I've never danced when no one is watching because I've never wanted to. It just doesn't do anything for me, even when I'm in my I-couldn't-care-less-what-anybody-else-thinks mode. The first time I went clubbing I was 24 - I danced when I got too bored of sitting, and sat when I got too bored of dancing. I've never had anyone make fun of me for how I danced or anything like that. Freestyle dancing is OK - not much fun but not actually bad; the other type I hate (I've taken a few lessons in it), because it requires me to concentrate a lot on the actual steps, and concentrating on something you don't actually enjoy and with no practical purpose isn't my idea of fun. I never persisted with dancing lessons because they bored me to tears, and I wasn't actually learning; I can try and follow the beat or I can concentrate on the steps, but not both (and anyway it's hard to concentrate on something you're not really interested in).
I don't have anything against dancing, it just doesn't do anything for me. It doesn't annoy me that other people enjoy it, what does annoy me is that it's like a sin if you don't enjoy it, like it's some horrible crime against... what? It's probably a bit similar to people that don't like drinking (I do drink, but if others don't enjoy it, it doesn't bother me, each to his own), that they get pressured a lot to drink.
I have known women that don't like dancing and many men don't. My dad has always disliked dancing.
I'm not a music lover - I have recently taken to listening to music more, but for the first 3 years I lived away from my parent's house I didn't have get any audio equipment at all. I'm just not crazy about music, and I think you're right that the two are linked. Plus, the music I like isn't really the type you can dance to. Music can move me, but I don't find it addictive.

Oh c'mon, let's not spoil it for those that like it. I actually want to learn myself. :)

^ Exactly, the kind of dancing I want to learn is classical dancing like the Tango, not the crap people today call dancing.

I guess what I want to learn would be called Ballroom dancing. :)

*asks social_fantom to dance*

I can do some ballroom, waltz, swing and some merengue (sp?), plus free form. I've also taken official lessons in ballet, tap, and Irish step.

I love dancing!

I can also do the "free-form" stuff... ummm... yeah...

Ever seen that movie Shall We Dance?

It was similar in a case where a guy learns to dance only to get to the girl he likes. I wasn't crazy about the American version of it though. :?

I don't dance because I'm afraid of making an a** of myself. If I had a woman to teach me, in private, I would gladly participate. When I'm confident of my ability, then I may dance in front of others. I think that the private lessons would be a very sexy, turn-on. Hmm... :chin:

I like dancing :D I just move and hope it looks good. Although it's probably not the best dancing in the world, at least I'm not a wallflower (Though I can't do dances lately because I can't deal with the lights and the noise)
