Yes, as my username suggests, I do have tics. The first vocal tic I had was snorting like a pig. I remember where I was when it happened too. I was shopping with my mother and sister, at a Wal-Mart. My sister at first just thought that I was fooling around, and told me to knock it off. And I told her I couldn't. My mother then recognised it as being a tic. Another vocal tic I have is barking like a dog. I can actually bark out the tune of "Jingle Bells". A problem I had though was when I nearly got into a fight with a dog, because it's barking set off mine. We had an arguement, and I didn't know what I was communicating. I also sometimes have simple motor tics, such as raising my eyebrows up and down. I've noticed that being stressed, and/or startled, makes my tics more chronic. Also, on a related note, I remember back in the 80's, before Asperger Syndrome was widely known, my parents became concerned about my frequent hand flapping, which I later learned is a "stim". But the neurologist they took me to was not aware of this. He told my parents that he thought that it's probally Tourette's Syndrome, and that I might grow out of it. So for years I was not aware that I am autistic. Though in retrospect, I can recognise the traits I share with others with Asperger's Syndrome. The good thing is that the doctor thought it best not to medicate me. I sometimes wonder though how my life might have been different, had people known back then that I'm a high functioning autist. But before the 90's, and even later in my case, persons often were considered to have other conditions, other than on the autistic spectrum. Before my 20's though, I do not remember having any type of tics, rather than stims.
