How do I get a cat stay out of my room?

I keep my door closed because my cat likes to chew on cords, especially ones plugged into the wall. Most of the time he stays out but every once in a while he slips in and he knows when I don't want him in here because he runs and hides under my bed. That's why I've got boxes and things under there so he can't get away so easily. But I do let him in whenever he gets lonely, but it's under constant surveillance.

Buy a laser-pointer. It wont keep the cat out of your room, but I have yet to meet a cat that can resist chasing that dot wherever it goes, in this case out of your room, followed by a closed door.

^ I have actually used that and found it to be the most successful way.

But it suddenly disappeared.

well, sometimes a flashlight that makes/can be made to make a sort fof concentrated spot can work as well.

It's hard to remember to do, but shutting the door works well

My brother's cat kept sneaking into my room, and she would pee on things, so I wouldn't let her in there...I kept yelling "NO." at her and eventually she started listening...she would start begging "Mreeeeoww????" at me whenever I yelled, and then she'd leave. But I think that made her like me less =/

I like the penny idea better, wish I would've known about that. I'd like to try it and see if it works on her.

The laser pointer idea works great too, if you have one.

Cats are tough to influence. In my experience, if they want to go somewhere, they'll go there because it suits them, not because it suits you.

If they get a petting in the process, that's all well and good, but otherwise...

They do hate to get sprayed. Mine run away now if I only hold up the spray bottle. They also hate putting their paws on double-sticky tape, but that might be impractical to put on your bed.

Oh well, I'll reply anyway. I suggest spraying it with water (not much, just a bit to make it leave and eventually develop a Pavlovian reaction to your room- you could get a trip wire set up so that it'll work even when you're not in the room... although you might want to warn your flat mates) or... I know for a fact that cats hate being stared at- it freaks them out, so... put huge pictures of eyes on your walls (again, maybe warn the flatmates)

Or... keep the door closed (but that'd be boring)
