I'm not entirely sure what has brought it about.... but I cannot abide censorship. I cannot abide it for myself, nor for anyone else. Though it doesn't come up as often as you might think.... my pet hate of being censored will rear its ugly head with a vengeance whenever anyone tries in the slightest to dumb down anything I have to express.
It is like the need for 100%, absolutely uncompromising honesty will not allow me to allow any sort of cover-up. Information wants to be free, as I regularly say.

I mean... in part it is this opposition of censorship that leads me to do things like wear my Vestal Masturbation t-shirt in public, especially when there are children around. In case you're wondering what it is like and don't know, google image search the words (it would be at least 15 if not 18-rated).
There was also the time when a shop-owner went around the back, and while he wasn't watching, I started bringing adult magazines from the top shelf and putting them next to all the kiddy comics and magazines.

It really isn't a desire to shock or anything so much as the need to expose the world to everything that society tries to hide from it..... to rip away every little tiny deception and lie that might cover it up.
I certainly have no qualms about swearing in front of children or anyone else, and will actually become especially resentful of anyone who tries to stop me. I am aware that I don't overuse such words as much as many people do... no more than any other word in fact... so I see no reason why anyone should object to my use of the words at all.

Funny thing is, this is what has resulted in most of my bans across the spread of the Internet.
I will express myself however I see fit and resist any attempts to prevent me. For that matter, I have been known to launch full-on attacks against staff just to stop SOMEONE ELSE getting censored or banned.... even someone I really don't like.... even someone I'd kill if I was right in front of them. Heck... at one boards I escalated one person's ban into a whole plethora, including myself, when my very vocal objection to someone being banned caught on and a whole load of others chimed in. We all got booted.

And that is just it... I don't think I could live with myself if I stopped.
Tiredness can interfere sometimes, but generally I can't just sit down and shut up, and neither do I have any desire to... no matter the cost.
I would rather give up my life than any shred of my freedom.

Nothing personal, of course.

You have the right to peaceful self expression. It seems though putting "adult" magazines next to "kiddie" books is not so much about expression as needling people to get a rise from them.
My nephew has the same attitude--"He's right & the rest of the world is wrong". He also gets beaten down (literally) frequently.

It's not your place to determine what other people's kids should be exposed to. The deserve the chance to grow op at trheir own speed.

I think I understand. I was brought up very sheltered and it did not serve me well when I was suddenly set loose from my figurative dungeon of chastity to the great big world with all it has to offer. I am lucky that my innocence was not used to take advantage of me any more severely than what I did experience.

I do not understand the practice of "protecting" children from all that is considered immoral or "adult" and then expecting them to be able to safely navigate this immoral adult world without any prior knowledge or preparation.

Ideally, there is some middle ground - parents prepare their children for the complexities of adult life gradually, and with great wisdom.

Unfortunately, this is seldom the case. I think most children's "preparation" does come from accidentally stumbling upon adult-oriented material. That or abstinence only "sex education". One could argue that the former is slightly better because at least they encounter something that is actually part of adult life.

So while I, myself, would not expose children to pornography, or support such a practice, I can relate to it in an abstract ideological fashion.

I think censorship can go overboard sometimes.

There is only self-censorship here. In order to be allowed to post here, you must agree to the rules. They state that the moderators may assist you, by editing out anything that violates those rules.

I think this was about censorship in general.

We aren't going down the mod-on-a-power-trip road again, are we? I thought all that ended a few years back.

Everyone is entitle to freedom of expression
within the law. Going out of your way to
smuggle adult magazines into a children's
section is not within the law,no matter what
your reasoning may be.

Sorry, but shoving adult porn amongst kids comics is a bit sick.

Easy enough to say, but you'd be surprised what you'll agree to when your life is actually on the line.

But seriously. I've never said censorship is right. It is unfortunately, sometimes necessary. Look at "The War on Terror". Your country has taken casualties just as mine has. You would rather give terrorists access to information that would harm your country than suffer the inconvenience of having some information withheld from the general public?

I don't think your post is about censorship, or conformity. It's not a crime to be different, or have a divisive opinion. But there are times for the sake of your own prosperity that you have to at least try to blend in. Look at it this way: Diplomacy is telling someone where to go in a way that they're looking forward to the trip. Tact is being able to remain silent when you overhear two people arguing, and you know both of them are wrong. Peace.

I can see your point as far as swearing goes...I think the whole hypocracy of it is absurd, since adults swear all the time and most the words considering swearing are really just descriptions of body parts or body functions which most of us are quit aware we have...no news there. However, most kids are monkeys and if they hear something they will repeat it without thinking about if "where they are saying it" is going to get them in trouble. I think parents just want their kids not to say it around other adults or kids of other adults who will take offense(even if they shouldn't).

I am personally more offended by false beliefs or bigotted speech(like a lot of the myths surrounding AS), then I am by "swear words or sexual topics" . I can understand your desire to fight back against societies hypocracy but it seems to me that there are more imprtant ways to do it then promoting freedom of swearing or open sexuality...whataabout rampant consumerism or energy waste. Can't you use your intelligence and creativity to expose some of the more important hypocracies in society ?
