As someone who has Asperger's, or in my case may have it, what have people assumed was 'wrong with you?' This included both insults and well-intended conjecture.

for someone who gives a f***

people usually assume I didn't hear them and keep repeating their question or their assault or whatever when if fact I'm just ignoring them.

OCD, brattiness, shyness, being "too smart", or being nerdy. Also the generic "weird", which is quite true :)

Eccentric, weird, lazy, rude, selfish, bad attitude, shy, introverted, perfectionist, extremely thorough, detail-oriented, difficult to work with, immature, "need to have your head examined" (heard that one a lot from my mother), "just like your father" (Mom again), brusque, "ants in the pants", disruptive, aloof, loner, procrastinator...

That's all I can think of off the top of my head. I'll probably remember more later, though. :D

EDIT: Corrected wrong possessive pronoun in Mom's quote--she'd never forgive me otherwise!

Crazy, ret*d, gifted (with any and all social and communication problems being said to stem from that), willfully strange (maybe she'll stop if we stop giving her attention), dumb, easy target, etc. Several different flavors of crazy among those who did their speculation officially rather than unofficially.

What have I been mistaken for?

Most notably, a narcotics cop. I've even received death threats from people whose friends and relatives have gone to prison for drug dealing.

Otherwise, I've often been mistaken for someone who cares.

Gay mainly. Everyone is convinced I'm gay. Yeah, I'm as camp as hell, but not gay.

When I was younger, people who didn't know me would ask if I was a grad student.

Since my hair has turned gray, in most situations where people don't know me they might ask if I'm school teacher

but when I'm being interviewed by medical staff I've never met before they ask if I'm a nurse.
