Hi, I don't know whether what I have is Asperger's or Avoidant personality disorder.. so people who are undiagnosed may want to look at that too.

Pleased to meet you and welcome to the Wrong Planet!

We all have different AS traits and combinations of traits. They say if you've met one person with AS, you've met one person with AS. I fit the textbook classic definition of a woman with AS in many respects, and in other respects I can appear NT because of my many compensations I've learned over the years.

We all belong here, and we are all different in our patterns of "eccentricity!"

Mudhaliar welcome...."OASIS" maybe they referred you on because they prefer to look after people, Wrong Planet just means you have a mind of your own, I like to see us all as differently able, gifted / special I feel all children are in their own way... those of us on the autism spectrum can be as diverse and different as those that are not, and just like anyone we all have our strengths and weaknesses... 8O

Hi,
I was diagnosed 10 years ago as having Generalized Anxiety Disorder, Depression, Social Phobia and Avoidant Personality Disorder. Meds and therapy didn't help at all. I was diagnosed Asperger's after my son was diagnosed with the same!

I was diagnosed with an avoidant personality in early 2004. It took me up until a month ago to get the proper diagnoses, PDD-NOS. If you have an avoidant personality it is important to look to see if there is an underlying condition. OF COURSE many people with autism spectrum disorders will be avoidant, their problems with social skills will cause them to avoid social situations and be nervous in such situations.

The important thing is that you determine whether you are just having anxiety towards social situations or if you have an underlying autism disorder which affects your ability to socialize.

This sounds very much like a nature vs. nurture sort of thing, where a diagnosis could swing either way depending on any number of arbitrary details.
