I acquired an old sony viao laptop thats a later model PIII with Windows XP. However I can't get this laptop to show Full Screen @ 800x600 resolution. I can in 1024x768 but I need older resolutions for some games. Trust me my Intel 815 graphics chipset and monitor can handle it. I just need to find a way to activate it.

Just to tell you that there is no options in the BIOS. As well as the FN-F7 combination doesn't work like on Dell laptops.

Its the way the graphics driver transmits the information. The older Sony's would just shrink the screen as to keep everything the same size.

You COULD try a more generic driver for your computer, but it could also be a firmware thing, which there isn't really any getting around. Sony sucks like that.
