You seem to not be getting the point. "You'll realize as time goes on" sounds a LOT like you'll telling me like I'll understand something too complex for my wee little brain when I'm older and wiser ...

I specifically pointed out the wording I found to be condescending - the "you'll understand as time goes on" language, which is very patronizing. I would have still disagreed with your point if you h ...

If the mainstream dialogue about cure was about treatment - speech therapy, social skills classes, motor skills training and all that - I think that most people in both the current "anti-cure" and "pr ...

It seems a lot - not nearly all, but a good number - of people on the spectrum's problems stem from public ignorance and stigma. We learn to value ourselves less, to lower our expectations, to questi ...

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying "The woman's place is in the home", nor do I have any problem with having a boss who's female. The point is she would've known it would make me undesirable to other ...

About the electric shock level - the JRC has revised its GED three times (they are now on GED-IV) to make it more painful. Just to be clear, this means that they have shocked people who are sent ther ...

Please go read about the use of aversives like electric skin shock on autistic people at the Judge Rotenberg Center. Read about the use of restraint and seclusion, which often leads to serious injury ...

I second Discworld and Temeraire. I'd also recommend A Song of Ice and Fire by George R. R. Martin, if you're into big medieval (low) fantasy epics with lots of characters.

I can say from experience that life can be worth living as a woman that the mainstream culture would consider "ugly."

I've got a couple facial deformities and, depending on how you count it, 7 or 8 ...

Everyone has a right to their opinion, but that does not preclude other people from questioning their opinion, and hopefully helping them to refine it if it is based on inaccuracies or biases.
