If it's coming from my head and I'm awake, around 80ish wpm. But if I'm having to take a typing test and try and read, then comprehend, then type, it's only about 25-30.

I would use GIMP for what you're talking about. It's a bit easier to use than PS in my opinion, and since it works on both Linux and Windoze, you ought to be able to find a version for mac.

I've had that trouble too. I usually just go through Synaptic on Ubuntu and get it to install it, that way I don't have to worry about compiling. I know a bit about the OS, but not enough to do that ...
