Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes

Urban dictionary--not surprising. It's a dictionary of NT slang, basically.

I saw that a month or so ago, and got pretty annoyed, but there's not much you can do other than click the "thumbs down" button.

If they saw some of the severely affected people with AS that I've seen coming and going from my AS-specialist doctor, then they wouldn't say that. A lot of his other patients you could tell from 2 blocks away that there's something "wrong" with them.

The point of urban dictionary is to rate definitions based up which one is most stereotypically applicable.

I suppose that if there is a "good" definition provided for a particular slang, the only people that will provide negative feedback are those who are offended, and there by reinforce the validity of the definition.

All in all, it's a place where everyone can flame everyone else.

You can rest assured that those posting definitions aren't attacking the severely affected.

It's a place to have fun and express how others annoy you.

I don't recall low self esteem as a diagnostic criteria for AS. Seriously, if you're sore sport, you should avoid places like urban dictionary; it'll only make you feel worse.

Perhaps the moderators should see to it that people who post this type of abrasive humor about Aspies, have their post locked.

Ok, first you say that the point of it is to provide definitions, and then you say it's a place to express how others annoy you. I disagree that it is the second. It is a dictionary. A dictionary is not a place for expressing how others annoy you. That's called LiveJournal.

Except that Asperger's isn't slang. It has a proper definition. Just like any other entry, people who find the entry to be an incorrect definition will vote it down. They don't have to be offended by it on a personal level to vote it "incorrect."

I don't see how you inferred any low self esteem from my post. I didn't say anything about it making me feel bad. Unless that part of your post was in response to other people's posts.

Much of the internet is an intellectual sewer. Can you really be surprised what you find floating around in it?

Do you acutally believe that the abusive people in school automatically developed sensitivity and intellect when the "grew up"?

If their creative contribution is to post trash on the web, have some pity for them. After all, if that is what they do with there time, they probably have nothing better to do in life.

Either that or they have even less empathy and social skills than Aspies. Its always shrill when Irony SCREAMS ! LOL

Unfortunately, the fact that I am wasting my time even addressing such a pityful example of a toddlers' tantrums for attention tells me that I am losing valuable sleep.

Good night and let it roll.

Very Happy

But not just any dictionary. It's a slang dictionary, and slang is culture. The very color definitions capture the culture behind the slang words.

Never been on LiveJournal.

Urbandictionary isn't the place to find a "proper definition".

I don't view the up/down as correctness, but rather a popularity rating indicating which definition captures the essence behind the slang the best.

I didn't say that you in particular have low self esteem. I'm just stating that people who vulnerable to being offended should avoid derogative material.
